Thank you to everyone who came to the 2026 Fishbowl Residency finale for Kitchen Table’s (@kitchentable.puppetspress) Sustenance, a potluck and an immersive, interactive ritual featuring large puppets, song, dance, and collaborative performance with Houston-based Kill Joy (@kill.joy.land) and Koomah (@_koomah_), and San Antonio-based laura yohualtlahuiz (@ahuiani_mami).

Drawing on the spoon as a symbol of sustenance and collective care, the performance asked what it means to nourish one another—materially, emotionally, creatively, and politically. Thank you to everyone who came, and to those who bought a dish to share to accompany Kitchen Table co-founder Rebo’s (@reboprints) mama-made pozole. It was a beautiful communal gathering where food and performance became shared acts of nourishment and connection - and a perfect way to wrap up the first year of Fishbowl Residency!

Thank you to our 2026 Summer Community Arts Fellows Roony Puga (@roony_pebbles) and Han Joyce (@harrowed.ground), and photographer Intel Lastierre (@intellastierre.art) for their incredible support all Fishbowl season!

This project is supported in part by an Austin Elevate Grant of Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment, Carpenter Hotel, and DORF’s generous community of volunteers and donors.

🍁mayahuel ceremonia - fall equinox 2026🍁

houston! i like this making it regular.

i’m so behind (lol) on edits from all the work i’ve been doing late summer early fall szn but playing catch up on my days where i’m not driving to another state.

this year felt special, and honing into the way i see light and my cameras capture orbs, and faces in the smoke, and the moon looks like a star and it beams down a ray into ceremonia, and the spirits go back into the flowers and…(with absolutely no ai or hard edits of any kind)- some are actually raw photos straight out the camera) - it’s a new chapter of understanding my role in documenting things in the night. sacred things in the dark.

once again gracias to @lamonicarreal for the the trust and to @danzamacuilxochitl for your work and traditions and hearts! this year going back felt like returning to another home, and every hug was deep and heart to heart and loving.

thanks to everyone for showing up with your hearts and your light!

another post coming soon of the danza 🪶

(please tag folks i’ve missed or can’t find on ig in comments so i can add them).

gracias mores, muchas gracias a todes 🩵

On Monday, we came together at Breckenridge Park to honor our ancestors who came before us and paved the way for us. We celebrated the water, the earth, the birds, and all the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer. It was a moment to reconnect with the land, remember those who came before us, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.

Thank you to Matilde and Gary who entrusted Laura, myself and our community to continue Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration while they tended to our sister site in San Antonio Bay. It is a great testament to our collective talent and visibility as indigenous people to have so many events happening at once. Tlazocamati to all who came out to support and be present, especially all the children! 👶🏽👶🏾👶🏽

The weekend came and went but I’m so happy I was able to reconnect with friends in Austin and in San Antonio. These are just a few scenes of today’s Indigenous Resistance/Existence/Joy Day.

We participated in a writing workshop led by @joyouswindriderjimenez that centered around feeling freedom and migration. Here’s a small bit of mine: “Full autonomy, who’s going to stop me? I flow like water, sometimes gently, other times like a roar. The land holds me and the wind shapes me. I am free like the fire that purifies my past and lights my way forward…. Freedom means being home in this moment.”

I pray for our continued protection and elevation. I pray for the freedom of our indigenous families held in detention camps. I pray for our stories, songs, danzas, teachings, and words to continue. I pray for the sovereignty, security, and wisdom of indigenous matriarchs as they and we hold the way to our future, present, and past. I pray they, we get rest when we need it.
🪶🌱

I am grateful my Creator gifts me moments of respite and reconnection from the day to day challenges and responsibilities. As long as there is a body of water for me to be in relation with, as long as there are trees and plants I can admire, as long as I can breathe the air, as long as the fire in matriarchhood is aflame; I’ll always have refuge and connection.

Tlazohcamati 🤲🏽🪶
