Last week, 5 of our OVC Alumni attended the @concordiasummit in NYC, hosted by @libraphilanthropies as part of their Rising Global Leaders initiative.

Here is what one of our alumni had to share about her experience: “The Concordia Summit is, to put it simply, a gathering of people who know how to turn good ideas into reality. Attending with the Emerging Global Young Leaders program gave me the space and camaraderie to continue to develop my own ideas of the impact I want to make in my field, while receiving encouragement from leaders who have already done the same.”

We are deeply grateful to George Logothetis for the invitation and Libra Philanthropies for sponsoring their participation and investing in the next generation of global leaders.

We recently finished another year of programming at OVC. Celebrate with us by listening to our Corps Members at final retreat singing the Troparian of our Patron Saint, Mother Maria of Paris. And share the beauty with a friend.

We just completed our fourth program year. During the final retreat, Corps Members share Presentations of Learning, careful reflections on their year of service. We have now witnessed 34 presentations over four years; they have been funny, poignant, insightful, agonizing, and hopeful. They are treasures. And so are all of you who support this ministry!

Two weeks ago, our Boston cohort had the privilege of learning from two board members of the Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion (OCAMPR): Dr. Mena Mesiha and Dr. Sarah Byrne-Martelli. @ocamprinfo

Through stories from their own vocation journeys, Dr. Mesiha, an orthopedic surgeon, and Dr. Byrne-Martelli, a hospice and palliative care chaplain, invited our Corps Members to reflect on the many ways service can take shape in the world.

Their witness offered a powerful reminder that every profession can become a place of compassion, healing, and service.

It was an honor to welcome @orthodoxvolunteercorps to @tuftsuniversity. I had the opportunity to facilitate an intimate seminar—“Faith, Public Service, and Politics”—focused on the tension between faith and power. As an educator, practitioner, and Orthodox Christian, this is something I navigate and negotiate every day.

Founded in 2020, and with over 40 alumni already, OVC is a year-long immersive program for young adults ages 21-29, from all Orthodox traditions, committed to serving alongside neighbors on the margins. With sites in Boston and Pittsburgh—and plans to expand nationwide—Corps Members are paired with local nonprofit organizations, live in intentional community, deepen their faith, and grow as leaders rooted in the Church.

I am grateful for our time together, the enriching dialogue, and the work these young leaders step into daily.

And yes, my trusted teaching assistant, @alulathedood, definitely stole the show.

Two weeks ago, OVC Reach Boston welcomed the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute for a powerful Setting the Table conversation on peacebuilding in faith communities.

Chaplain Clementina Chéry (Founder and CEO) and MC Bercy (Community Outreach Coordinator) invited us into a conversation about what it means to cultivate peace within our faith communities and how the Institute’s principles of peace—Love, Unity, Faith, Hope, Courage, Justice, and Forgiveness—can inform and transform our work of service.

They also introduced us to Peace Play in Urban Settings, a trauma-informed healing modality used by the Peace Institute to help individuals and communities process experiences of trauma, grief, and loss.

For nearly three decades, the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute has helped shape the landscape of community healing in Boston through its groundbreaking work with families impacted by homicide and its commitment to creating pathways toward peace through support, advocacy, education, and healing. Their witness is a powerful reminder that healing is communal work. To learn more, follow this link: @peaceinstitute

Thank you to the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute and to everyone who joined us around the table.
