🇿🇦🥋 ALGERIA 2026 — A PROUD MOMENT FOR SOUTH AFRICAN KARATE 🇿🇦🏆

Now that I’m back home and have had a little time to reflect on the UFAK African Karate Championships in Algiers, I wanted to share one final post from what was a very special tour for me.

Every time I have the opportunity to represent South Africa and wear the Protea, it means something.

But being there as a coach, standing next to the tatami and experiencing the pressure, emotion, disappointment and success alongside our athletes makes you realise again what an incredible privilege and responsibility it is. 🇿🇦

And this time, we came home with plenty to be proud of.

Four African Championship finals and 12 medals for South Africa. 🇿🇦🔥

As a coach, I couldn't be prouder.

Of course we always want more. We analyse every performance, every match and every opportunity because that is how we improve.

But it is also important to stop, look back and appreciate what these athletes achieved against some of the best karateka on the African continent.

And our athletes weren't the only ones developing in Algeria.

🎓🥋 PROTEA COACHES — UFAK QUALIFIED 🇿🇦

A very proud part of this tour for me was also seeing our Protea coaches invest in their own development by completing the UFAK Coaching Courses and Examinations.

Congratulations to:

✅ Jeffrey Jackson
✅ Sandile Nelson Makwali
✅ Rafeeq Larney
✅ Adeeb Fillies
✅ CLayton Thom
✅ Monique Morrison-Hagen
✅ Erwee Tiran

I really enjoyed working alongside our coaching team throughout this championship.

🥋 ALGERIA 2026 – WHAT A JOURNEY! 🇩🇿

Back home after an incredible African Karate Championships in Algiers, and finally a chance to reflect on what was a very special tour.

International championships are so much more than the few minutes people see when an athlete steps onto the tatami.

Behind those moments are months of preparation, long days, early mornings, nerves, pressure, coaching, analysing, adapting, supporting one another and constantly trying to get the best out of our athletes.

We had four full days of competition:

🥋 Thursday – Senior Individual Events
🥋 Friday – Cadet & Junior Events
🥋 Saturday – U21 Events
🥋 Sunday – Senior Team Events

And South Africa finished the championships with 12 medals – 4 Silver and 8 Bronze. 🇿🇦🏅

But one of the things I will remember most about this tour is the TEAM

Athletes, coaches and managers working together, supporting each other and representing our country with pride.

As a coach, tours like these are also an opportunity to learn. You come home with new ideas, things we did well, things we need to improve and an even clearer picture of where we need to go next.

There were great results, difficult moments, plenty of laughs, long days and memories that will stay with us for a very long time.

Thank you to my fellow coaches and management for the teamwork throughout the tour, and congratulations to every athlete who had the courage and honour of stepping onto that tatami wearing the Protea. 🇿🇦

It was a privilege to be part of it.

We return home proud of what was achieved – but also hungry to keep improving.

Algeria 2026 – a successful tour, an incredible experience and another chapter in the journey. 🇿🇦🥋

Now... back to work. 👊🔥
