POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

You know that feeling when you walk into a place and everything feels like déjà vu? That was me at Write for Rights this year.

Same event, same purpose, and somehow, I was drawing stick people again😂 I didn’t write a letter this time; I was one of the people who chose the art activity instead. And honestly, I’m sure Rokiatou will laugh when she sees my design. I hope it brings a little lightness to her day.

This year, under the Human Rights Clinic of Amnesty International, Calabar, we advocated for Rokiatou, a Malian activist who was arrested and sentenced to prison for speaking out about the rising cost of living and the situation in her country.

It’s easy to think that one letter, one drawing or one small action won’t make a difference. But maybe it can remind someone that they haven’t been forgotten, that people care and that they’re not alone❤️

Last year, I wrote about how awareness is not enough. This year, I was reminded that solidarity can take many forms, even a slightly questionable stick-figure drawing.

So yes, I drew for Rokiatou, and I hope it makes her smile. ✍🏾

Yesterday, I joined Write for Rights 2026—using my voice to stand in solidarity with Marwa Arafa, an Egyptian human rights defender who has spent years in detention.

I wrote a petition calling for her immediate and unconditional release, the dropping of the charges against her, and respect for her fundamental human rights, including access to proper healthcare and the right to be reunited with her family.

Sometimes, standing for human rights begins with something as simple as putting your name and voice behind a cause.

Freedom should never be a crime.

BUK LAW CLINIC JOINS GLOBAL CALL FOR MARWA ARAFA’S RELEASE

The Bayero University Law Clinic participated in the 2026 Amnesty International Write for Rights Campaign, held on 22 October 2026 at Mambayya House, Kano.

As part of the campaign, the clinic joined the global call on the Egyptian authorities for the immediate and unconditional release of Marwa Arafa, whose prolonged detention raises serious concerns about human rights and access to justice.

The clinic reaffirms its commitment to human rights advocacy, the rule of law, and the protection of human dignity. We believe that defending human rights requires collective action, solidarity, and the courage to speak against injustice.

Justice must not be silenced. Marwa Arafa must be free.

A little advocacy, a lot of purpose. 🖊️⚖️💛

Grateful to have participated in the Amnesty International Nigeria Write for Rights Campaign

A reminder that advocacy goes beyond the courtroom, impact goes beyond titles, and sometimes, the smallest actions can contribute to something bigger.

Still learning. Still growing. Still showing up for justice. 🖤

It all starts with a pen. The impact goes beyond the paper. 🖊️

YOUR VOTE IS NOT FOR SALE.

Electoral violence and vote-buying violate human rights and undermine democracy.

This election season, let's choose peace and protect our voice:

1. Vote freely, peacefully and by your own conscience.
2. Refuse money, gifts or favours offered for your vote.
3. Reject hate speech, threats and political thuggery.
4. Report violations to election observers, security agencies or the electoral commission.

Share this with your family, friends and community. Together, we build stronger communities.

Day 1 of the @ainigeria Micro Influencer Training, held on 14th October 2026, challenged me to think beyond the content we create and pay more attention to the impact it leaves behind.

The day began with a session on The Power of Micro Influence and Responsibility, facilitated by @ifys.kitchen . We also explored Digital Rights and Safety for Content Creators with @fayamalan , and Storytelling for Social Good: Crafting Authentic, Inclusive and Evidence Based Content, facilitated by @lizzbeth_xx .

And honestly, these conversations connect directly to the work I do around women’s rights and digital safety.

We encourage women to speak up, challenge harmful norms and use digital platforms to amplify their voices. But we must also be intentional about how we tell their stories, the information we share and the risks they may face online.

One thing I took away from Day 1 is that good advocacy is not just about getting people’s attention. It is about communicating responsibly, telling authentic stories and making sure the people behind those stories are represented with dignity.

My commitment is to be more deliberate about the content I create, verify the information I share, tell stories that reflect people’s realities and continue using my platforms to advance women’s rights and promote safer digital spaces.

Because influence comes with responsibility, and I want my work to reflect that.

On 14 October 2026, Headfort Foundation for Justice, led by our Executive Director, @oluyemiorija, paid a courtesy visit to the National Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Abuja. The Controller-General was represented by Assistant Controller-General Timothy Dabiti, alongside T. Chukwu and other officials of the Service.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has been a valued partner of Headfort Foundation since 2019. During the visit, the Service commended our contributions to access to justice, particularly our interventions in Lagos, Ekiti and Ogun States, and expressed openness to supporting our proposed work on reentry and reintegration.

The visit also sought institutional support for expanding Headfort Foundation’s interventions to Northern Nigeria, with discussions focusing on correctional welfare, mental health, human rights education, vocational training and rehabilitation.

Particular attention was given to our Wellness Behind Bars initiative and opportunities to develop needs-based interventions in selected correctional facilities.

We appreciate the warm reception and the Service’s recognition of our work. We look forward to strengthening this longstanding partnership and extending our impact to more persons within the correctional system.
