Special mention today, @aishetu founder of @bossylipstick. We love her story and what she builds. “Aisha has always described herself as a "lipstick junkie" and never imagined that she'd start a global beauty brand when she started her career years ago. She worked for several years as an investment banker in the US, UK, Central and South America, and Sub-Saharan Africa. She's also founded a children's play and activity center called Paloo's Place and a media project which showcased successful African women called African HERstory.” She lives in The Bay Area, California. #femalefounders #multicultural #womenempowerment #womensupportingwomen #darkskin #pigments #lipsticks #bossylady cc thank you for the chat with @odile_roujol #community #wearefab cc @thesalonbyunruly Antonia Opiah

A women's empowerment movement masquerading as a cosmetics company, is one way to describe @bossylipstick, founded by the inimitable @aishetu in 2019. I love Aishetu's story of saying bye bye to a 20-year career on Wall St to start her own company and redefining the way we talk about women with ambition. The story of @bossybeautyinc is inspiring, the woman behind it all is phenomenal, and the product is very high quality and beautiful. Aishetu visited my MBA class @uclaanderson this week and my students flooded my inbox with messages afterwards, thanking me (lol) for inviting her, saying she was a BIG inspiration to them. Listen to her NPR interview with @guy.raz where she talks about the shit show that is 2020, how she nurtures resilience, and how she's maneuvered through massive supply chain problems caused by the pandemic.

“Women’s insight and experience are not valued, yet women often see market opportunities that men pass by. This undervaluation perpetuates a cycle in which women have to fight for access to critical networking and profile-building opportunities.” The data tells the story: ✖️At tech events, one in four speakers are women. ✖️Only 14% of keynote speakers are women of color. ✖️Women are underrepresented in the news coverage by a ratio of 3 to 1. @allraiseorg is changing that narrative in the tech and venture ecosystem by putting women front and center at conferences and in the media. “It’s a misnomer that there is a pipeline issue,” said Pam Kostka, CEO at All Raise. Thank you @allraiseorg for doing the work promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging in tech and media. Thank you @forbes @forbeswomen for amplifying the message and we are thrilled that our founder is included. Add yourself to the list of #VisionaryVoices today 🎤📣📢 #BeautyMeetsWisdom
