Meet the historical figure who is the foundational inspiration behind today’s teach-in session, “Seeding Repair & Revolution”, Fannie Lou Hamer. Fannie Lou Hamer was a force to be reckoned with. A powerful and resonant orator on par with the likes of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcom X, a fierce advocate of voting rights for Black Americans and women. A leader in the civil rights movement, a steward of land, a community organizer, and a political disruptor. Fannie Lou Hamer embodied infinite resilience, and her framework for liberation is one that we should all aspire to carry on today. “Seeding Repair & Revolution” is presented in partnership with @laundromat_proj. 📅 Thursday, August 13 🕡 6:30 PM EDT on Zoom or IRL at 1476 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 🔗 Link in bio to register (limited capacity for the in-person panel) ASL interpretation will be available.

Reparations aren’t just about addressing the harms of the past. Reparations are about healing and creating the capacity to cultivate and imagine a future that empowers those who have been harmed to determine how we can move forward into a world beyond the reach of discrimination, racism, homophobia, and xenophobia. Building ecosystems that bring communities together to steward collective, power, self-determination, and resistance to erasure by systems meant to exploit and extract. Examples of reparations in places like Evanston, IL and Tulsa, OK are inspiring and enlightening. But it’s only beginning to scratch the surface of what kind of healing could be possible when we come together to mend wounds and envision more expansive futures. Our upcoming session “Seeding Repair & Revolution” will look at the examples of reparations in action and think about how we can imagine and create repair beyond the current models that have already seen so much resistance from systems that refuse to be held accountable. Join us on Thursday August 13 for our final People’s Archive teach-in session in partnership with @laundromat_proj and a panel of four amazing artists, organizers, activists, and creators @arianafaye, @venusroots, @ajamu, @growhousebk. 📅 Thursday, August 13 🕡 6:30 PM EDT on Zoom or IRL at 1476 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 🔗 Link in bio to register (limited capacity for the in-person panel) ASL interpretation will be available.

Memories from On The Road: NYC The diaspora is full of voices redefining visual art, and New York reminded us exactly why. DR members didn’t just see the work on this trip, they heard it. From private collections to artists’ lofts, every room had a story, and every host made sure we left carrying a piece of it. Today, April 24, 2026, marks TEN YEARS since my first curatorial project opened!!! I can’t even believe it! The world has changed so much and yet so little in that time. That day (shown in Image 1) I was TERRIFIED but forward was the goal!!!! The show (Black Magic: AfroPasts/AfroFutures Pt. 1) and its subsequent iteration (Image 2.) made an impact I couldn’t have imagined on me, many of the artists in the show and the culture at large! There’s an image here for almost every year of my decade formally moving through this space. When I first envisioned my first proposal in 2014, I never could have dreamed I would do half the things I have since. Before I knew it, things blossomed so fruitfully into so many other dimensions of presence and collaboration. What a privilege it’s been to share the brilliance of countless amazing colleagues in this decade— through exhibitions, teaching, editing, writing, building initiatives & programs, and so much more—and now facets of my own creativity as an artist! These relationships mean so much to me and I hope you have all felt that care, clarity and commitment all these years. The truth is you all quite literally saved my life more than a few times. I don’t know where I’d be without the lifeline art has created for me. My journey has been UNIQUE to say the very least. I like to think I move through the world seeking connection to the beauty of everything, and hopefully somewhere along the way I’m offering that gift to others. May it continue for a long time to come! Cheers to a future filled with abundance, beauty, joy, progress, vision and the vastness of possibility!!!!! 😊🍾🥂 Photo Credits: Images 1 and 3: @ralstonrsmith Image 2: @colinwilliamsmedia Image 5: @mtkalla
