Reena @reena.makwana originally made this beautiful illustrated zine for her son. I thought it was so cool I said let's launch it at Zine Mela @zine.mela then Hassan also Gujurati just had a baby and bought also for his son future.

We sold out of all issues at Zine Mela. Even non Gujuratis and people from Indonesia to England loved it. Saundra @saunshine from Em_Dash said it reawakened that memory of drawing with joy.

You can still get copies directly from Reena @reena.makwana etsy for £10.

This photo was taken on the final day of my festival Zine Mela.

Temporary dictionaries [tempa, rerè dikSHa,nerès] is an exploration of finding common ground in between different voices, artistic practices, bodies, minds and needs. It’s an on-going process from which new dictionaries can arise.

By the wonderful @akash.sh.sh @territorialagenda @h.monola @jny_joh @sophie.dandanell and me.

The exhibition Temporary dictionaries arose the summer of 2024 from the two week long residency Längs hela hjärtats kant, organised by @charlievinces & @moamannsdorff at @galleri54 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The residency highlighted collaboration as an artistic method with six artists exploring this by learning and working together.

⭐️ The selection of the Open Letters open call is in! Out of 33 high-quality submissions, 5 standout works have been chosen. The first letter by Alcide Breaux & Akash Sheshadri is now on view throughout August at Boekhorststraat.

Their letter “Checking In…” extends a previous collaborative text from Extra Intra Reader 3: Swallowed Like a Whole (Gerrit Rietveld Academie, 2024). This text, written as a letter to an academic institution, details the story of a wheelchair purchased for a student, referred to as Student X, after their rapid loss of mobility due to disease progression. The ownership of the wheelchair was disputed, leading to the academy repossessing it upon the student's graduation. This text serves as the autobiography of the wheelchair, chronicling a 54-month exchange of emails and Zoom calls regarding its use and accessibility issues within the academic institution.

Their proposal features “receipts” of numerous email chains, centred around the embodied experience of trauma and loss of physical agency due to bureaucratic challenges. These excerpts are arranged like labels on a schematic illustration from a manual. The Letter design includes a diagram of the wheelchair's controller armrest, symbolising the wheelchair as a Deleuzian body without organs. This represents more than the wheelchair itself or its users, as the ♿ symbol, the official icon of disability worldwide, consolidates all disability and illness experiences into a singular entity.

Open Letters, initiated by Page Not Found in 2021, provides artists and writers from The Hague a platform to publicly address urgent and vulnerable messages.

We kindly thank @stroom_den_haag, @gemeentedenhaag, and @mondriaanfonds for supporting this project!

Celebrating Graduation: A Journey in Moments 🎓

1. Inclusion of excluded knowledge - because every piece of wisdom has its place.

2. After the ceremony, talking to Nani and she says, “Wapas kab aa raha hi?” (When are you coming back?)

3. My classmates and I came as individuals, but we leave together and connected.

4. Another milestone added.

5. Proudly holding my graduation certificate.

6. Fien said, “I want Akash to be my father in my next life.”

7. The love I’ve put into building this structure is unmatched - not a single metal screw used, only wooden joints.

8. The best moments are witnessing the little drops of rain falling and making beautiful patterns.

9. How to thank all the people who helped? I just opened a pani puri stall! With @samanthasejwal

10. The whole structure has been built using reclaimed materials.

Each of these moments has shaped my journey. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of it!

together in solidarity with Palestine and Kashmir

kongposh/saffron+ zaytūn/olive

While 1948 marked the creation of Israel as a nation state through occupation of Palestine, the year 1947 is celebrated in the Indian subcontinent as the year South Asia gained its freedom from their Colonizers, The British. However, with the establishment of India as a nation-state began the colonization of Kashmir.

Over the past decades, India and Israel have become close partners and allies, wherein India’s occupation of Kashmir and Israel’s occupation of Palestine have stark similarities.

At this crucial moment, as the world rallies for Palestinian liberation amidst the US backed israeli genocide in Gaza, there is an increased need to understand interconnectedness of struggles, solidarity and oppression. Kashmiris are observing aspects of the militarized and violent response used in indian-occupied Kashmir being deployed against students protesting across the US and around the world. We see this violence and brutal state response to resistance as representative of a greater collective struggle against colonization, settler-colonization, and occupation. Through Palestine, we have learnt to speak out against the most unjust institutions, and we see echoes of Palestine everywhere. We know our struggle is interconnected and we should be ready to embody the Palestinian condition, offer unconditional solidarity, and face whatever violence may come, to achieve collective liberation.
