Autumn holiday art recommendations 🍂

Looking for art to experience during the autumn break? We’ve gathered a few recommendations featuring artists from our gallery programme, from exhibitions across the country to installations and special projects outside of Denmark.

Whether you’re spending the autumn break in Denmark or travelling, here are seven places to explore.

1. Side By Side - Galleri Bo Bjerggaard, Frederiksberg

Our current group exhibition brings together works by nine artists from the gallery’s programme, exploring new possibilities within the gallery space.

On view until 7 November 2026.

2. Emily Gernild - Det Fynske Kunstakademi, Odense

In Feminist Aesthetics, Gernild reimagines traditional subjects such as still life through colour, line and form. The exhibition includes paintings presented in the Academy’s Skulptursal.

On view until 11 December 2026.

3. John Kørner - Fuglsang Kunstmuseum, Lolland

Laguna Lolland presents new paintings inspired by Kørner’s childhood in Onsevig. Memories, landscapes and surreal light phenomena come together in a colourful tribute to the region.

On view until 11 April 2027.

4. A K Dolven - Stiftung St. Matthäus, Berlin

In four hundred million years of sunrise from the dark, Dolven explores the relationship between touch and time, bringing geological, historical and personal perspectives together in the setting of St. Matthäus-Kirche.

5. John Kørner - Strandlodsvej, Copenhagen

If you’re staying in Copenhagen, take a walk past Strandlodsvej, where Kørner’s new mural and rooftop installation bring his characteristic Problems into the cityscape.

6. Ivan Andersen - HUSET i Asnæs, West Zealand

Ivan Andersen is among the artists participating in 100 KUNSTNERE, a large group exhibition bringing together 100 professional artists and showcasing the diversity of contemporary Danish art.

On view until 1 November 2026.

7. Eva Schlegel - Stadtgalerie Klagenfurt, Austria

An installation featuring suspended sculptural forms and mirrored surfaces, creating an interplay of shapes, reflections and shadows.

We hope these recommendations inspire a few art-filled days this autumn. Happy autumn holidays! 🍁

A few moments from A K Dolven’s
A Other Teenager on Saturday 10 October in Royal Fort Gardens.

Thank you to everyone who came to experience this live performance with @taledolven and @stianwesterhus together with 30 non professional performers- staff, students, and Bristol residents. Enormous thanks to all who took part, you were incredible! A K Dolven writes that this performance is ‘about care, trust, people together, meeting another person, passage of time and sharing. What can we do in the world we are part of these days? Take care of each other I find is a good start.’

This public art commission has been able to foster collective creative engagement while highlighting the University’s Cultural Collections and demonstrating how they can be used not only for research and study, but also as catalysts for creativity, connection and shared experiences.

By bringing people together through art, the project explores how collections can inspire new relationships, conversations and a stronger sense of belonging within the University community.

A set of photographs of this performance by @thierry_bal will be archived in the University’s Cultural Collections.

“A K Dolven. Amazon” was selected for The Most Beautiful Norwegian Books 2026 📚🏅

Published by the National Museum, this 456-page book brings together works from the exhibition, archival photographs, and a collection of essays, both new and previously published, exploring Dolven’s artistic practice. More than a traditional exhibition catalogue, it offers a wider look at her work and has been developed as a publication in its own right.
