From August 2021 until now I’ve been first an inquirer and then a catechumen in the Orthodox Church. Today, on the Feast of Pentecost, I have been received into full communion with the Orthodox Church. It’s been a long journey, long enough to have new zeal, wane in that zeal, become scandalized, and recommit myself, all many times over. Long enough to learn new things and change. It was fitting to be received on Pentecost, for the Spirit of Truth does not eradicate the good of my Pentecostal upbringing but elevates and sanctifies it beyond measure.

Thank you to all my family and friends who came to my baptism and chrismation and thanks to all who walked with me during this entire time, whether at Duke, Durham and the parish of Holy Transfiguration, Miami, or wherever we met!

Christ, the Wisdom of the Father, has called all to unity by His Spirit.
Let us attend!

Words feel limiting to describe the contours of the past year, the moments stuck in bed yet another day to chanting in Shohada’ Square in the Spring. My biggest regret is not documenting more - as my capacity fell I turned inwards and isolated myself from myself - sitting in silence rather than being in community, sharing, and writing.
I offer this post as a visual representation that life continues even when we don’t share it. That I’ve graduated from university (yay!), moved cities (hello 🍎), and enveloped myself in loving relationships. And finally, this post is a commitment to myself to share more, everything from the rocky peaks to the smooth valleys.

May the photos share a thousand words:)
1: Masked baddie in front of the Hill! It’s been a year of advocacy with AAPD and NBJC and I couldn’t be happier.
2: Panel conversation hosted by GU NAACP with yours truly speaking, it’s giving LinkedIn content but the jawline is eating 💅
3: a group photo with the Fannie Lou Hamer Fellowship Program in front of the African American History and a culture museum with our fists raised. This photo brings tears to my eyes every time I see it - these people forever changed my life, allowing me to step into disability justice work from a place of belonging, love, and community. From left to right is Levell, Amie, Qualik, yours truly, and Saphire. Kaysia was also a fellow, but not in this photo.
4: post-hug smiles with one of my favorite humans (the Akil Cole) at the Lavender Graduation gala after giving the student speech in April.
5: grad smiles with my mama:))
6: me, masked in up-dog, co-teaching a class with Movement4Choice:)
7: a rainbow of trans folx marching in dc during the National Trans Visibility March, centering the sign Protect Trans Joy Masked baddie in front of the Hill! It’s been a year of advocacy with AAPD and NBJC and I couldn’t be happier.
