Did you know I was a refugee of war?
.
.
My dear friend Al asked if I would answer a few questions for her class regarding my experience as a child refugee with stipulation that I had to be brief and keep it under 10 minutes. 🤣 And although I waited until the due date and recorded this at like 2am - pleading ignorance of the 15 hours difference in our zones - I did manage to keep it under 6 minutes by sticking to the questions.😁 Over the years, I have shared my story in various situations and mediums, but I thought this brief video format would be good to share here. I kept it light in consideration of the intended students audience (young teenagers) though the reality of war and refugees is anything but that. If you find this interesting and have any questions I’d be happy to answer…probably. 🙂

You know I don’t think I can ever remember tasting a cheesecake in all the years I’ve been on this planet and I’ve certainly never made one before. After a bit of encouragement by @al_in_focus I opted to try a half mix of the recipe from @taste_team . Why have I not done this before? So, so easy and very nice. I love the fact that making a half mix still gave 3 good sized small cakes so thats a good 6 or more serves. Think some berry coulis or extra lemon curd would be a bonus. Might get very adventurous now and try a fancy one! 😂

We met Alison @al_in_focus in 2018 when she visited from a gorgeous part of rural Victoria where she lived at the time and we got chatting about coffee 😃☕️🍒

She ordered a lovely breakfast & a Yemen Mocha Matari pour over, which she loved!

She promised to stay in touch 🙌& was true to her word - two weeks later she wanted more of the Yemen & though we weren’t yet doing online sales, we shipped her some 🍒

Years later, she’s a loyal online customer and we love seeing her whenever she’s in Sydney! 😃

This time she met her girlfriends @joiedorotheo & @natbird6 for coffee, breakfast & desert before heading off to Canada 🇨🇦 and it was our great pleasure seeing her & wishing her safe travels & great holiday 🤗

Thank you to Alison and Sharon at @thequiltshop for hosting two one-day workshops of Improvisation Plus! lines, curves, geometrics, dynamic 9 patches and more . Here’s a small sample. I always learn from my students too and I will be putting that into good use for teaching the two day version of this class at the Auckland Quilt Symposium next month.🔻➕🔷➕🔲➕⬛️➕🔻
