The @jonesfalls2076 exhibition that I curated and co-organized opens tonight @thepealebalttimore More than an exhibition, Jones Falls 2076 is a question and a call to action about what we want for the future of this mistreated waterway. The show centers on 14 newly-commissioned speculative works that envision a radically restored and reimagined Jones Falls in the year 2076, alongside a selection of archival surveys, proposals, and depictions of the river. Beyond the opening reception, we’ll be hosting a series of events that include panel discussions, a community design charette, artist talks, and more. I invite you to visit the exhibition or join us for one of the events. Over the past year our public imagination project, Jones Falls 2076 (which I co-organized with @alainthavan & Lee Davis), has been sparking conversations and dreams of better futures for the river. We hope that Baltimore will continue to take these conversations beyond the walls of the museum, beyond the highway. Join us this Thursday, October 15th from 5-7 pm for the opening reception of our exhibition, Jones Falls 2076! Link in our bio to RSVP! The Jones Falls 2076 exhibition at The Peale explores alternative futures for Baltimore’s Jones Falls River, as imagined by artists, designers, writers, and community members. Baltimore’s founding river has been hidden below I-83 for over 50 years, overlooked and mistreated. This waterway made possible the rise of Baltimore as an American industrial powerhouse. And yet it is out of sight and out of mind for many residents of the city and region. As the elevated expressway covering the Jones Falls nears the projected end of its lifespan, more and more Baltimoreans are imagining and asking for a different future for the river. Jones Falls 2076 poses these questions: What futures do we want for the river at the heart of our city? And how might we get there? 🖼️ On view October 15–November 22 at The Peale 🥂 Opening Reception: October 15th from 5–7pm Join us for events including panels with civic leaders and planners, artist roundtable discussions, and a community design charett where Baltimore community members will brainstorm and collaborate on design concepts for a restored Jones Falls. 👉 Exhibition info and opening RSVP links in bio Featuring new original works from: Katryna Carter @katrynacarter Alyssa Dennis @alyssadennisstudios Kondwani Fidel @kondwanifidel Curry J. I'll be joining (via the interwebs!) an incredible group of co-panellists on Monday for the Global Tipping Points Conference 2026 at Sunway University, Malaysia @globaltippingpoints2026 The plenary, on the art and science of catalysing positive tipping points, will be moderated by Dr. Kirsten Dunlop, CEO Climate-KIC @climate.kic with Nora Bateson @norabateson (International Bateson Institute), Anand Pandian @alainthavan (Johns Hopkins University), Patrycja Slawuta (UnLab) and Audrey Tang @audreytorg (Free software Programmer and First Minister of Digital Affairs of Taiwan 2022-24). Kirsten will be asking us to respond to the fundamental question: What tips a human society? Earth systems tip through physics. Human systems tip through meaning, imitation, legitimacy, fear, hope, incentives, power and belonging. The science of Earth system tipping points has a community, methods, models and a report. The science of human systems tipping points has none of those in any joined-up form. We will be exploring the knotty space where culture, imagination and reinforcing dynamics play, and I can't wait to be inspired. 12 to 15 October 2026.
