🧠 Oftentimes, what we believe we are capable of shapes what we actually attempt.

The limits we set in our minds can become the limits we live by. Our expectations influence our motivation, behaviour and willingness to face challenges.

But believing you can do something is only the beginning. Growth comes from taking action, embracing discomfort and learning along the way.

✨ Sometimes, the first obstacle we need to overcome is the one we’ve created in our own minds.

💬 What’s one thing you’ve convinced yourself you couldn’t do?

☕ We all know how much we love coffee and how much of our social culture revolves around it. But what does neuroscience tell us?

🧠 Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain, temporarily reducing our perception of tiredness. However, it doesn’t eliminate the biological need for sleep.

🔬 Research published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that a substantial dose of caffeine consumed even 6 hours before bedtime can significantly disrupt sleep.

⏰ My advice? Aim to have your last coffee 6–8 hours before bed, or earlier if you’re particularly sensitive to caffeine.

Coffee is a pleasure, a ritual and sometimes a necessity. But good sleep is essential for brain health. 🧡

💬 What time do you usually have your last coffee?

Research led by King’s College London using @kclbrainbank tissue suggests diabetes may mask biological changes linked to Alzheimer’s disease, raising the possibility that the underlying biology of Alzheimer’s disease differs between people with and without diabetes.

📱 We’ve never been more connected digitally, yet so many of us feel increasingly lonely.

Endless scrolling can replace meaningful interactions with passive observation, leaving us feeling disconnected.

🧠 Less scrolling. More living. More real human connection. ❤️

💬 When was the last time you put your phone down and truly connected with someone?

👇 Share your thoughts in the comments and send this to someone who needs a reminder to reconnect with the real world.

🥗 We know how difficult it can be to maintain healthy routines, especially in the hectic world we live in.

🧠 But small choices make a difference! Try pairing carbohydrates with protein and fibre to support steadier blood sugar, better satiety and sustained energy.

🌿 Fibre also helps nourish our gut microbiome, which plays an important role in our overall health.

💚 It’s not about perfection. It’s about building healthier habits, one meal at a time.

🧠 Steadier blood sugar, steadier mind.

🍽️ What we eat doesn’t just fuel our bodies. It can influence how we think, feel and function.

⚡ Large blood sugar fluctuations can affect our energy, concentration and mood.

🥗 Balanced meals, regular movement and good sleep help support more stable glucose levels and better metabolic health.

🌿 A healthier brain starts with how we treat our body.

🌍 Why does the world feel so sick?

📱 Constant stimulation, 🧠 information overload, ⚡ chronic stress and endless notifications. Our brains are being asked to process more, while our bodies are given less time to recover.

🧩 We are overstimulated, under-rested and increasingly disconnected from ourselves.

🌿 Perhaps what we need isn’t more, but less.

🧠📱 Turn off your notifications. Your brain will thank you!

Every ping, vibration and pop-up is competing for your attention. And every time you interrupt what you’re doing to check your phone, your brain has to redirect its focus.

We live in a world where being constantly available has become normal. But constant connectivity doesn’t mean better productivity or better mental health.

🔕 Here are some benefits of switching off unnecessary notifications:

🧠 Better concentration: Fewer interruptions allow you to focus more deeply on what matters.

😌 Less mental overload: Reducing unnecessary alerts can help create a calmer digital environment.

⚡ Improved productivity: Less task-switching means more time spent actually completing things.

💤 Better sleep: Silencing your phone at night can reduce disturbances and the temptation to keep scrolling.

💙 More meaningful connections: Being present with the people around you instead of constantly checking a screen.

Your attention is a limited resource. Every notification is a request for a piece of it.

You don’t need to be available to everyone, all the time.

Take back control of your attention. Technology should work for you, not the other way around.

🧠 Dementia is not always inevitable. Your daily choices matter more than you might think!

We cannot prevent every case of dementia, but research suggests that addressing modifiable risk factors could prevent or delay a substantial proportion of cases.

🏋️ Move your body regularly.
🥗 Eat a balanced, nutritious diet.
😴 Prioritise quality sleep.
❤️ Look after your cardiovascular health.
📚 Keep learning and challenging your brain.
👥 Maintain meaningful social connections.
🚭 Avoid smoking and limit alcohol.
🩺 Manage blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes.
👂 Protect your hearing and vision.

There is no magic pill or single habit that guarantees protection against dementia. Brain health is built through the choices we make throughout our lives.

Prevention doesn’t begin at 70. It begins much earlier.

Look after your body today to give your brain a better chance tomorrow. 🧠💙

🧠 What if we could prevent or delay nearly half of dementia cases?

Dementia is not simply an inevitable consequence of ageing. Research suggests that up to 45% of dementia cases could potentially be prevented or delayed by addressing 14 modifiable risk factors throughout life.

And prevention doesn’t begin at 70. It begins decades earlier.

🏃‍♂️ Physical activity
🥗 Good nutrition
😴 Quality sleep
🧠 Intellectual stimulation
❤️ Social connections
🩺 Managing blood pressure, cholesterol and other health risks

These are not just lifestyle choices. They influence vascular health, neuroinflammation, cognitive reserve and the biological processes that shape how our brains age.

As a clinical neuroscientist, I believe we need to shift our attention from simply treating disease to understanding how we can reduce the risk of developing it in the first place.

We cannot prevent every case of dementia, but we can do far more to protect brain health across our lifespan.

Prevention is not a guarantee. It is an opportunity. 🧠
