Congratulations to Nicolas Bogle for representing St. Michael at the 2026 Session of Alabama Boys State, held at The University of Alabama in May!

Selected to participate in this prestigious leadership program sponsored by The American Legion, Nicolas gained valuable firsthand experience in government, civic leadership, and public service while joining outstanding students from across the state.

We are proud of the way he represented the Cardinal community!

Adam Kilpatrick and Lillian Pitman recently had the opportunity to speak with delegates from Alabama Boys State about the Alabama League of Municipalities and the important role municipal government plays in communities across our state.

The American Legion believes that the survival of our republic rests on training our youth in the ideals and objectives of American government. Boys State is a unique summer program that does not rely on lectures and textbook scenarios, but hands-on experience and participation in a model state government.

We appreciate the opportunity to engage with these outstanding young leaders and share how Alabama's cities and towns work to serve their residents every day. Programs like Boys State help inspire the next generation of civic and community leaders.

Well….. it looks like I’m at the halfway point of my social media, social experiment! Remember no one is bigger than the program! No matter your role, your title, or your contribution to the program you’re just as important as anyone else!

This week is hands down one of my favorite weeks of the year. I truly look forward to it and will always give up my Memorial Day for this. Alabama Boys State is a life changing program. I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to serve our state and youth through it for 13 years.

Thank you to all who has given to this program in any way possible. Special thanks to the University Liaison, Melissa Snell @melissagsnell ! Also, congrats to Col. Valentine for leading his first of many Boys State weeks after the retirement of the goat Judge Pete Johnson!

4.0, 4.0, 4.0…

A week ago I walked into Boys State not really knowing what the week would behold, but it ended up being something I will never forget. Between elections, speakers, debates, late nights, and everything in between, it was a constant mix of learning, leading, and figuring things out as it went. The motto “We Build Citizenship” actually showed through in a real way over the week, not just in words. Learned a lot, made some great friendships, and came out of it with a better understanding of government, leadership, and service. Until next time boys state.

Proud to be a part of the City of Perry for the 89th Alabama Boys State. Each year, I’m reminded why this is one of the most impactful programs a young man can be a part of. The staff who give their time, the delegates who show up and pour everything into this week, and the community that forms here every summer is something I am immensely grateful for. Thank you to the @theamericanlegion and everyone who makes this week possible year after year. #ALBS2026 @alboysstate

22/52 - 5/17-23: Wow, I can’t believe I actually got caught back up on my post. I also wasn’t shocked that I got behind in the first place. Doing this weekly is true task for me! It took some time but I’m caught up now and it’s the only thing that matters, lol. 🫶🏿🙌🏿!!! It’s all about hard work, dedication, and setting your mind to something.

The calm before my favorite storm of the year….. Alabama Boys State! This week I continued to remind myself that it’s only 6 sleep night’s until I see my people and watch young lives being changed in a week.

You walk I ride, pickle family, hush fell over the campus, getting ready, showers for days, votes, nothing like a good tuna sandwich, Dak said bring the help, boy, Legion, legend, Pelo, the calm before the storm, happy start to Alabama Boys State, the boys are back in town, Migo duty as well, congrats Judge Johnson for your time of service!
