POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

September Festival Viz! A milestone month for me. I’m still processing it all, still writing notes about what I learned, still sitting in awe of the spaces I was invited into.

@driftportland @sweetbaby_james @kkily2 @tsls_ and the whole entire Drift crew, @simpsonaire and the whole group, @montavillajazzfest @osmosis__world @mrrfskrrt @rose_robinsnest Ethan and the whole light/ visual crew who helped me set up @ism_oly @axenfeldloop and the ISM crew !!

I appreciate you all so much. Thank you for inviting me in ♥️ so wild to see how much work you all put in. I left a piece of my heart and soul at all of these shows and am in awe of you.

++ Ty to the djs for your sounds and most important, to all the dancers who danced into the night under the stars and the viz. 🫶♥️🫶♥️ + @kristithomson @malka59 for capturing photos for me 🥲♥️🫶

The 2026 @montavillajazzfest was an absolute blast!

I had the opportunity to sit down ahead of the festival and chat with @brandonleecierley @domobranch and @losteele , if you missed it... you can catch past broadcasts available on demand via MixCloud (link in bio).

Some more highlights from this year's festival included @dat.bari.sax / @wenipt , @rebeccasanborn and the @portlandjazzcomposers ensemble 'Shadow Work' album release show, a pair of multisensory performances from @northpolepdx and @and.or_you + @mosleywotta . @de_dae_day The Collective left a "melody in my soul" (courtesy of @davasate_jr ) that I can't stop thinking about.

🎺 @simpsonaire always puts on a show, and I was lucky enough to see him perform with 4 different groups over the weekend.

Montavilla Jazz has become one of my favorite local events and this year was the best year yet! Let's do it again Labor Day weekend 2027!

🦪A B2B WEEKEND WITH ALDEN HELLMUTH 🔊

”Multiple directions brought into cohesion — multiple inspirations tethered into a single sensibility.“ The New York City Jazz Record

The reference points on ‘Tether’ run wide: @Alden.Hellmuth has named Anthony Braxton alongside Punkt.Vrt.Plastik, @Deerhoof and @OtobokeBeaver as touchstones. A lot of ground to cover, and the record covers it without ever losing its footing. Even ‘Satellite (K)’ plays this game, reworking John Coltrane’s ‘Satellite’, itself a rework of ‘How High the Moon’ — a lineage folded three layers deep into one track.

Critically acclaimed and still rewarding repeat listens months on: ‘Tether’ is out on limited edition vinyl and all digital platforms. Link in our bio.

Montavilla Jazz Festival 2026 is in the books!

Thank you to everyone who came out with a special shout out to those who braved the weather on Sunday. Our annual celebration moves with the belief that the past, present, and future of America’s greatest art form belongs to—and deserves to be enjoyed by—everyone.

This festival is only possible through the collaboration of our artists, staff, crews, sponsors, donors, neighborhood businesses, funders, an army of volunteers, and audience members like you!

We love sharing our creative community with you, and we hope you loved your experience. Please take 5 minutes to tell us about by completing the survey linked in our bio.
