This morning, the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce was proud to host the 2026 Infrastructure Summit, bringing together government officials, energy leaders, construction representatives, investors and business leaders to discuss the infrastructure needed to support growth in Vaughan and across Ontario.

The conversations explored how electricity investment, procurement reform, coordinated approvals and transportation planning can help move projects forward. Discussions examined the electricity capacity needed to support data-centre development and business expansion, alongside opportunities for Buy Ontario and Buy Canadian procurement to strengthen domestic supply chains amid tariff and trade uncertainty.
Transportation discussions further focused on moving projects from planning into construction, attracting long-term institutional investment and standardizing municipal construction specifications.

A special thank you to the Hon. Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation, and the Hon. Andrea Khanjin, Minister of Red Tape Reduction, for supporting today’s Summit and sharing Ontario’s infrastructure priorities. We also thank the Hon. Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines, for his remarks on energy infrastructure and economic growth.

We were also pleased to welcome Mayor Steven Del Duca and MPP Laura Smith.

The Hon. Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation, joined industry leaders for Panel 2 at our 2026 Infrastructure Summit to discuss how Ontario can move transportation projects into construction more quickly.

The conversation explored how to attract long-term institutional investment and how consistent municipal construction standards, including greater use of recycled crushed aggregate, can reduce costs and improve productivity. Progress on both fronts will depend on government, investors and industry working together to address the funding and construction challenges that affect project delivery.

Thank you to moderator Lauren Fisher, Manager, Government & Stakeholder Relations, CAA and panelists Raly Chakarova, Executive Director of TARBA and Mehalan Garoonanedhi, Director, Public Policy and Government Relations, Canada Life

Approval delays can push essential infrastructure work into another construction season, adding costs and uncertainty. These challenges shaped the fireside conversation between the Hon. Andrea Khanjin, Minister of Red Tape Reduction, and Nadia Todorova, Executive Director of RCCAO, at our 2026 Infrastructure Summit.

Building on concerns raised at the Chamber’s red tape reduction roundtable, the discussion explored overlapping approvals for routine road and watermain work, permitting that reflects a project’s scale and risk, and the greater consistency needed across municipalities, ministries and agencies. Reducing duplication and making requirements more consistent is essential in ensuring businesses can plan with greater confidence and keep infrastructure projects on schedule.

Panel 1 at the Vaughan Chamber’s 2026 Infrastructure Summit explored how Buy Ontario and Buy Canadian procurement can support domestic businesses amid tariff and trade uncertainty while keeping infrastructure projects affordable and on schedule.

The discussion examined how these requirements affect material sourcing, cost risks, and municipal tenders, particularly when domestic suppliers and workers cannot yet meet demand. Strengthening Ontario’s economic competitiveness means creating opportunities for businesses to expand that capacity while ensuring procurement remains practical for the projects needed today.

Thank you to moderator Andrew Pariser, Vice President, RESCON, and panelists Marlon Bray, Executive Vice President, Clark Construction Management, and Peter Smith, Executive Director, Heavy Construction Association of Toronto.
