Exciting News!! 🎉

Our two poetry anthologies are now available for loan on @BorrowBox! 💚
All you need is a library card!

96 local poets feature across the two books, inspired by Rochdale's year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture.
Also featured, of course - last year's Rochdale Poet Laureate @sammyweaver, and young poets in residence, Sasha Mostafa @sashampoetry and Alende Amisi @alende99 .

🌄 ‘Weaving Words’ captures the uniqueness of the borough, packed with poems celebrating local people and places.
🌍️ ‘Poems to change the world’ is specially curated for children and families, and includes many poems written by children and young people from across the borough.

Over the last year Sammy led writing workshops with residents and over 650 young people, drawing on Rochdale’s co-operative history as a source of inspiration.

And if you'd like your own ("proper" book) copy to keep forever - both anthologies are available to buy (£10 each) from any of the 16 Rochdale Borough Libraries or from Rochdale Pioneers Museum @coopheritage 📙 #RochdaleTownOfCulture #NationalYearofReading #NYoR #GoAllIn

Gazillion x infinity chuffed with this anthology of poems written by young people across our wonderful borough of Rochdale ✨️

Poems to Change the World!!!

Featuring magical spells, nature poems, and recipes for happiness 🦔🐾

Most of these poems were written in my workshops for schools in local libraries.

When I think of the trouble in the world, these compassionate poems bring joy, hope, and fresh energy to keep going 🌱🐝

Huge thanks to all the young people, teachers, and grown-ups who helped make this book happen. Available at your local library!

Thanks to @rochdale.creates @rochdalecouncil @rochdalelibrary for understanding the endless worth of the arts to help us see ourselves, connect, and imagine better worlds 🌎

Thanks to poets in residence @alende99
& @sashampoetry

Amazing illustrations by Phoebe Foxtrot & Mark Rothwell!

This was part of my work as Rochdale Poet Laureate 💫

had a great time running workshops over yesterday and today as part of the FAB youth arts festival!!
✏️ friday: we ran 2 workshops with local year 3 classes in which they learned how to write acrostic poems about their favourite places and things
🎨 saturday: we ran a full day drop-in session with crafts, poetry prompts and community mindmaps that families, volunteers and young people alike got involved with
it was an awesome 2 days, am so honoured to have contributed to the brilliant programme

What a brilliant night last night in @rochdaletownhall for the Rochdale Culture Awards. I'm so pleased to have been nominated and to be a runner up in the Creative of the Year category. Thanks to everyone who nominated, supported and encourages me. Last week @tonywalshpoet stood in our library and reminded us all "Poetry is For You". Creativity is not a luxury, it is the lifeblood of mental health, of well-being and of being human. This stuff matters. So proud to be a part of it. @rochdale.creates @yourtrustrochdale @rochdalelibrary @culturecoopuk #rochdalecultureawards

Heart’s full, merci 🫂🏠

A huge thanks to the foundations that made all this possible, pulling the strings behind the curtain, backing and championing us, before it gets to a sexy IG post there’s a whole lot of graft so you deserve your flowers.

I’ve hit you all individually already so you know exactly how I feel but..
