Probably riding my bike
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Riding bikes has given me the opportunity to meet some incredible people, many of whom have become great friends. @chickenshmittzel and I met on Munich to Milan the year before this, and over the summer he made the very selfish decision to move back to Australia 😉 Before he left, we threw together a very impromptu bikepacking campout to celebrate his time in the UK. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable days I’ve had on a bike all year. It was also a great reminder that not every adventure has to be hundreds of kilometres long to be memorable.

First edition for the Gralloch ultra 323km 6000m elevation semi supported event This events are addictive because they keep testing you on what you are capable off and when you overcome several different challenges it builds your confidence in how far you can go and what you are capable of. 6 months ago I did my first ultra, now I’ve done 4, Oops! 800km 70% off road, 300km 80% road, 600km 70% off road, 320km 70% off road Things are starting to come to place, every little goal I’ve set for myself along this events has become a continuous learning process of which I’m hoping the next one allows me to bring everything together 💫 The biggest highlight is meeting so many like minded people, new friendships and this time round managing to get so many girls connecting as we continue to grow the amount of women participating in the sport! One of the moments that really got me during the race is when I saw this family with 3 little girls cheering for the ultra riders, I knew the other 3 girls where over an hour ahead of me and wondered if I was the first women cyclist they were seeing, it reminded me there were not many women in this event (under 20, maybe a bit too close to the highland trail event with so many strong girls out there) with soooo many more men and so how important it is to continue showing up to the startline, sometimes not for ourselves but for that little girl that can realize there is also many women doing this cool races and something they could do too! Big Thank you once again to @reillytitanium for supporting me with an awesome bike, but also for helping me dial bits of the bike towards race days. Finishing events without any pains says something about the brand in combination with some awesome components like @redshiftsports & @sqlab To the organizers, media, all staff and volunteers @grallochgravel for an awesome event, it is one of my favourite events of the year, combining the racing scene with the camping and more familiar vibes or a bikepacking weekend. P.s: Definitely a first to use my rear light as a front light 🤣 #ultra #gravel #gravelroads #gralloch

Scotland is probably not the first place you might think of when considering winter cycling destinations. Truth be told, that’s probably for good reason. Short daylight hours, unpredictable weather and poor road surfaces are all easily justifiable reasons not to set out for a ride. But then again, the best cycling stories rarely come from smooth roads and endless sunshine. They come from the days when the weather wins. The rides where a poorly timed mechanical leaves you doing burpees at the roadside just to keep hypothermia at bay. Or the moments you find yourself hiding in a McDonald’s only a few kilometres into a ride after deciding to cycle during a red winter storm warning. Winter in Scotland is for taking advantage of, and fortune favours the brave. If you come up short, at least you will probably have a funny story to tell. 📷- @mccart_media 2, 3, 4
