What if Toronto's urban forest could tell us its story? Last weekend, the Canada Malting Silos came alive with light and sound as Ali Phi's Decomposition No. 7: Undergrowth transformed Toronto's street-tree data into an immersive public artwork. Presented as part of SILO NIGHTS at Public Pier, the projection revealed hidden connections between the city's trees and root systems, inviting us to imagine new possibilities for our urban landscape and the future of Toronto's waterfront. Thank you to everyone who joined us at Public Pier to experience this extraordinary intersection of art, science, and technology. Missed the first weekend? Public Pier returns September 25–26 and October 2–3 with more public art, music, food and opportunities to experience Toronto's waterfront in a new light. Decomposition No. 7: Undergrowth was curated and presented in partnership with The Bentway as part of SILO NIGHTS, curated by OCAD University. Photo: @milabright_photo #PublicPierTO #SILONIGHTS #TheBentway

Starting this evening, one of Toronto’s most distinctive waterfront sites is coming alive with music, movement, food, public art and immersive nighttime projections as Public Pier launches at Marina Quay West. As night falls, SILO NIGHTS, curated by OCAD University, brings Canadian and world premieres to the Canada Malting Silos through immersive art and sound projections. Public Pier will transform the pier into a free, day-to-night destination for art and culture. It’s a chance to experience the waterfront in a whole new way. 📍 Marina Quay West, 539 Queens Quay West 📅 Fridays + Saturdays, September 18th - October 3rd 🎟️ Free admission Swipe through an discover the works that will be projected. Tags for all those involved are included on each frame. Learn more about through our link in bio. Decomposition No.7: Undergrowth by Ali Phi (@ali_phi) Curated and presented in partnership with The Bentway (@thebentway) This work imagines Toronto as a city shaped by what lies beneath it: root systems threading beneath the street grid, connecting trees across the city, and holding the ground where new growth begins. This new immersive artwork reads the city’s street-tree records, including species, trunk diameter, and location, as a score, transforming data built for maintenance into light, sound, and a portrait of slow, ongoing urban growth. In the Canadian premiere of Breathe (2026) by Pakistani-Canadian hybrid artist Faisal Anwar (@faisalanwarstudio), the Purple Martin’s 5,000-mile migration from Brazil to North America transforms the Canada Malting Silos into a living sky. Through generative visuals, animation, sound, and poetic storytelling, the work follows the birds through changing climates and disrupted ecologies. Breathe reflects on their resilience and vulnerability – offering a powerful metaphor for our disconnection from nature and an invitation to consider our impact on the world around us. Presented in partnership with The Blackwood Gallery, University of Toronto Mississauga (@blackwoodgallery_utm) The Shape of Memory by @ooopstudio The world premiere is presented by Istituto Italiano di Cultura – Toronto (@iictoronto), Consulate General of Ita

A/V LAB: 10 Artists. 1 Night. Saturday August 8th at 75 Pelham Ave MOVAZI is a series of interactive digital installations focused on self-reflection and the study of natural patterns through mathematical form by @ali_phi The work transforms the traditional mirror into a spatial and sensory experience, where light, motion, and the viewer’s own presence become the material. Pattern 3.1 is an initial study in digital Persian mirrorwork. A live camera feed is fractured and recomposed through computational geometry, paying tribute to Iranian artists who shattered mirrors and rebuilt them into surfaces of infinite light. The self is not reflected whole, it is multiplied. Visuals artists curated by @andshelookslikeblossom and @alex_rand_ This edition transforms 75 Pelham into a temporary exhibition of sound, image and movement.

Agnosia — the inability to process sensory information. Through generative audiovisual forms, light, and shifting patterns, Ali Phi (@ali_phi ) transformed the room into a landscape where perception felt fluid and uncertain. Geometry dissolved into atmosphere, rhythm into image, familiarity into something newly felt. What unfolded invited us to slow down, to question how we see, hear, and make sense of what surrounds us. A space between signal and sensation. Between confusion and clarity. And within it, a quiet reflection. ALI PHI — Agnosia @ali_phi Video: OVA @ova_group_
