How Winning Roofers Overcome Stress

WIC Week is coming to an end… so I wanted to share my thoughts on the constant question I get:

“How do you navigate respect and belonging in a male dominated industry?”

While a valid question, my answer is quite simple… 👇👇👇

Construction doesn’t have a gender bias.

It has a standards bias.
A results bias.

Roofs either perform or they don’t.
Installations are either correct or they’re not.
You either perform or you don’t.

Codes, materials, and craftsmanship don’t care who you are.
They care if you know what you’re doing.

If you’ve ever felt imposter syndrome stepping into this industry — good.

That feeling means you understand the weight of the responsibility. It keeps you sharp. It keeps you learning.

The moment you believe you already deserve the seat is the moment complacency starts creeping in.

Instead, lean into the discomfort.

Study your craft. (Overkill)
Learn the systems. (Meticulously)
Understand building code and compliance. (Back of your hand)
Ask questions. (Even the ones you think are dumb)
Watch the market. (I wish I did this sooner)
Volunteer for the tasks outside your comfort zone. (Growth moments)

Construction rewards people who continuously pursue competence.

And something interesting happens when you show up for yourself like that over and over again:

Skill builds.
And when skill builds… confidence follows.

That’s the kind of confidence that doesn’t need to be announced in a room.
It’s the kind that walks in quietly and shines anyway.

So don’t quit. Do the hard. And see it through. Confidence is on the other side.

If you’re a woman interested in switching to a career in the trades, or have a colleague/friend who has reservations, let’s connect, so we can start the conversation.

The sand got heavy.
The pace slowed.
The mind got loud.

He keeps going.
