Meet Alicia Romijn, founder of Everyday Connection 🤍
I’ve followed Alicia since the very beginning, and her journey is one of the biggest reasons I started the Empowerment Series. What began as a blog during Covid, sharing the stories of everyday people, has grown into a community of hundreds of thousands of women who feel seen, supported and connected.

Still beaming about getting to spend a couple of days with some incredible people who, like me, really care about the planet last week for @ausconservation x @youth4climatejustice GenEarth climate storytelling bootcamp on Dharug land!

It was very jam packed so I thought I’d take some time to reflect before sharing about it (sometimes I think we move too quickly online) (and i also got very sick afterwards) but I came away with lots of thoughts and lots of inspiration….

1. Storytelling and art are integral tools to creating the future we’re fighting for 💫

2. First Nations communities have already been leading on the fight against greedy fossil fuel companies to protect their Country! Amplify this.

3. I am very comforted knowing that there is genuinely so many people with cool ideas working on climate change from many different angles. And the fact that young people now make up the largest voting base gives me hope!

4. Similar messages can, and should, come from different messengers to reach people outside of normal /climate spaces/

5. It’s genuinely disturbing how much influence the fossil fuel industry has on our politicians (yuck) so we (regular people) need to keep showing up in those spaces to counter this.

6. Everyone loves birdwatching 👀

I was very appreciative that everyone came with care and curiosity and created a safe space where differing opinions and approaches could co-exist respectfully.

Since I am not getting off social media anytime soon bc my 9-5 (but the urge is so strong I swear) maybe you’ll see me making more content about the things I care about... or maybe not bc I’m shy hehe. Who knows.

Hoy en día consumir contenido puede ser demasiado agobiante. Pero cambia cuando encuentras mujeres que tienen un propósito muy claro y que, desde lo que saben o desde lo que han vivido, te hacen entenderte un poquito más.

De Bea aprendimos a mirar la inflamación y conectar puntos. De Marian, cuánto pueden influir nuestra mente y nuestro sistema nervioso. De Elizabeth, a mirar el bienestar mucho más allá de lo que vemos por fuera. Y de Luisa, Erika y Alicia, algo que para nosotras también es MUY MAI HAUZ: ver a mujeres hablar de sus procesos reales, cambiar hábitos poco a poco, escuchar su cuerpo y compartir también la parte que no siempre es tan bonita.

Hoy, por el Día de la Igualdad de la Mujer, queríamos reconocer eso también.

Estamos mucho más conscientes, más despiertas y más conectadas con nosotras mismas, y gran parte de eso también viene de mujeres enseñándole a otras mujeres

I ran City2Surf as a reminder of just how important it is to check in on the people around us!

Mental health is something that we all go through in different ways, and sometimes the people who seem the happiest or strongest can be carrying things you know nothing about.

Having a disability myself, I know how hard it can be to do things that might seem so simple to others. I ran the whole 14km because I know not everyone gets the opportunity to walk, let alone run! And no matter how much physical pain I felt throughout that run, it reminded me that there are so many battles people are fighting that we simply can’t see. This pain could never compare!

So check in on your mates and check in on yourself too. You never know how much that conversation might mean to someone! 💛
