There’s a good chance you already know our newest Co.Link founder…

From launching startups to building the successful @roadcoffee, Alisha Esmail has spent years making her mark on SK’s entrepreneurial community.

Now, she’s focused on a challenge that plenty of business owners will recognize: keeping existing customers coming back.

Her company, Latch AI, automates the workflows behind customer retention, helping businesses win back at-risk customers, increase repeat purchases, and get more out of the relationships they’ve already built.

Please join us in welcoming @alishaesmail and @latch.ai to Co.Link! 👋

New rule for your business: nobody gets to blame AI. ⠀
Not your VA. Not your team. Not you.⠀
⠀
If an email goes out sounding like a robot, it's on the person who hit send. AI drafts.⠀ You own it.⠀
⠀
The AI-first founders doing this well still do the human stuff. They pick up the phone.⠀ They write their own notes after calls. They let AI handle the prep so they can show up present.⠀
⠀
Try this: before you hit send on anything AI helped write, read it out loud. If it doesn't sound like you, fix it.⠀
⠀
Save this for later.⠀

We hold ourselves back so often.⠀
⠀
Alisha Esmail was the only woman in her startup incubator.⠀
⠀
She walked in insecure and nervous.⠀
⠀
She ended up running circles around the founders who started alongside her.⠀
⠀
AI needs more women in the room.⠀
⠀
We see things differently. We bring different ideas.⠀
⠀
Our voices belong at that table.⠀
⠀
So start the thing.⠀
⠀
Ask the question you think is obvious.⠀
⠀
Let people think whatever they're going to think.⠀
⠀
A few awkward moments cost a lot less than never showing up. 👑⠀

It’s not the client’s responsibility to tell you they’re unhappy. It’s yours to know it before they tell you.

Alisha Esmail flipped this one on me on AI-Ready or Not?. If a business wants the revenue, the business has to figure out how to keep the relationship, long before it gets to the “we need to talk” stage. Trying to save the relationship in the breakup conversation means you didn’t prioritize it in the first place.

Her comparison: if a partner went quiet on you for months and then showed up asking what went wrong, there’d be no excuses.

In business we do exactly that, all the time, and then wonder why clients leave.

If you’ve got a client you haven’t talked to in a while (not an invoice, a conversation), that’s your cue.

Awards on the wall, business growing, and then she gets the email at the family dinner table.

“We’ve decided to go in a different direction.”

It was from their biggest client, by a wide margin.

Alisha Esmail had to excuse herself from the table. What she did next is why she’s on the podcast: she decided that if she was going to build a real coffee company, she had to become a retention expert first.

That client is still with her today.

The part that stuck with me is that things were going well when it happened. Silently losing a client rarely shows up when you’re struggling. It shows up when you’re busy enough to stop paying attention.

A lot of founders say they want to grow, but they don’t.

That’s Alisha Esmail conclusion after talking to hundreds of business owners this year.

Her read: ignoring retention is a way to self-sabotage that feels like progress. You’re busy. You’re adding top-of-funnel. New customers are coming in the door.

And customers are quietly leaving out the back.

The treadmill feels like movement. It’s not. If you’ve ever ended a year with more customers won than the year before and roughly the same revenue, this is probably why.

A lot of companies are approaching AI backwards.

They start with Claude, ChatGPT or some new agent and then try to figure out what to make it do.

@alishaesmail took the opposite approach.

Build the process first. Prove that it works. Then let AI make it better.

Customer retention is the leak in your basement, not the kitchen fire.

That’s how Alisha Esmail described it on AI-Ready or Not?

A kitchen fire gets handled today. A leak in the basement gets ignored because ignoring it feels free. Then one day you go downstairs and the damage is already done.

If you run a small business, the customers quietly drifting away are that leak. Nobody sounds an alarm. The number just gets a little worse every month until it’s a problem you can’t ignore.
