Sometimes stone just in the shower and on the sink vanity is enough. We are living in crazy times where it blankets rooms too often. And while it can be gorgeous everywhere, it can also be a lot, everyday.

We installed this house in 2017, so design decisions were being finalized at least a decade ago. Love the calm and the timeless here 🤍

Everyone in California freaks out about the fireplace appliances that are mandatory here, unless you have an original wood burning fireplace that is grandfatherered in. I think with the right surround or screen it's really a non-issue...case in point 🩶

This is where I build. This is where I think.
Not everything has earned its place. Some things simply arrived and stayed.
Most of the books are turned spine back. Less for aesthetic, more for quiet.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about being able to see.
Come in.

So we did a crazy thing and bought a beautiful old house in Michigan! The fun begins now as we start to select paint. It's a very different experience to be able to share a project of my own with you. I can show you things in a way that might not honor my clients privacy and talk about process in a different way.

This room was last painted decades ago, it was hand brushed and meticulously sanded as there is not a drip in the entire house. For texture here, I want to remove the subtle decorative finish and use an oil paint to refresh the wood paneling, a tip the very talented @alexandra_loew_studio suggested. It's quite a large room anchored by an aubergine marble fireplace surround on one end and a beige Breccia marble floor on the other, so I want to keep the color neutral. I first selected drapery fabric in that color range and matched paint to them. The beautiful fabrics I am considering are from @hollandandsherryinteriors and @jamesharefabric . Here are the current paint options. The light was funny the day I put these up, so I could only look at it on one wall, excited to put these next to the fireplace next.

I have never met a flower I didn’t want to bring home.

Spring does this to me every year without fail.

The audacity of things just deciding to bloom.

A great example of how you can use strong color without it being overwhelming, for this client we focused on creating a bar like furniture plan with different intimate seating areas. And using lots, and lots of color in an otherwise monochrome room 🤍

Absolutely glorious master bath 🩶 Creating the recessed slab panels was no small feat, bless great builders who bring it all to life.

This was my first ever solo project, likely installed about 18 or 19 years ago. I am proud to say, in this clients next home we are using the beautiful curved arm chairs, the Hoffman tub chairs, the alabaster lamps, the side tables, the acrylic coffee table falling out of frame and of course the art.

I talk a lot about this in my work both here and with clients, so it's validating to see this and know we really walk the walk. I will say it again and again, buy the best quality you can afford. Well made and well designed pieces can almost always find a place in your home 🤍

We originally purchased and installed this Gustavian cabinet for another client. When they moved, the timing was right and we were able to build a new bedroom around it, in a different house for a different client. I love placing furniture that not only holds its value but also its relevance.

Wish we had better pictures of this room, and to that end of the cabinets first room, but grateful to have a record of any kind 🤍

A playroom make over became the best place in the house to read a book, or more likely emails, share a latte with a friend or just look out of one of the three walls with large glass openings into the beautiful garden. We don't carve out enough time in our lives to just be. Maybe, just maybe this will inspire just that moment.

Now the details...A beautiful Maurice Jallot coffee table in remarkable original condition paired with four Jean-Michel Frank inspired lounge chairs, English library lighting, some contemporary glass and ceramics in the new built-in behind and a couple plants bringing the garden in.
