This past weekend members of LDNY had the pleasure of traveling to Nashville for the M.F.K. Fisher Writing Symposium.

The weekend was filled with insightful discussions and panels led by remarkable women, including Ruth Reichl, Toni Tipton-Martin, Kayla Stewart and Abena Anim-Somuah among others. Dame Kat Craddock moderated a discussion with Dame Grace Young and Dame Marion Nestle. Dame Susan Kostrzewa moderated a wine panel with Kelly Comstock Ferris, Kelly Boutwell and Laura Huston.

"It's the thing that scares you the most that you must do." - Ruth Reichl

Huge thank you to the co-chairs that helped bring this wonderful event to life, Erin Murray, Emily Haws and Kathy Gold.

Didn’t feel like doing anything, or maybe you did it all… you needed a snooze, so you went up to your room to tuck back into crisp cotton sheets, while the freshest breezes of cool, clean country air soothed you into a gentle nap. The linen curtains fluttering, filtering the light as the sun sets, and your senses are revived by scents coming from the kitchen or a waft of lavender or rosemary tickling your nose. Arise, for the evening’s mysteries are to be revealed. Welcome to the delights of Domaine Majou.

Were you at the market today? Or did we go to the market today? Who’s cooking? Is it us? Is it you? How about we all gather in one of our kitchens and collaborate? You may not know that Alison comes from the family who wrote The Joy of Cooking—simple deliciousness is in her DNA. Relish in communal dining experiences, with food celebrated in the area as farm-style cuisine. Fresh, local produce is available for your creativity (or ours) to bring to life. Meals await your enjoyment, bringing joy, laughter, and fulfillment in a pastoral setting. Please join our table at Domaine Majou.

Let the radiant arms of the setting sun wrap their warmth around you—the time of day to lose yourself in thought. Take a meandering stroll, sit on a bench, ponder, read… the time of day that begins with whispers and ends in smiles and laughter as it’s Apéro time. Charcuterie, olives, tapenades, fresh oysters from the coast. Nibbles, toasts, and cheers. Celebrate another beautiful day. Let’s clink our glasses at Domaine Majou—there is much to be grateful for.

An ancient wall sconce invites your imagination—where was it before? How has it time-traveled through the history of the Aude? While the Aude is named for its river, stretching from the Mediterranean Sea to the mountains of the Pyrenees, it is also known as “Cathar Country” after a group of religious dissidents active in the 12th to 14th centuries. Yet, above all, we prefer the romance of the region. In the medieval tales The Charlemagne Romances, Aude La Belle was the beloved of Roland, whose soul was lifted to paradise in The Song of Roland. We named our leading lady chick after her. Welcome to the earthly, storied paradise of Domaine Majou.

Each day, each night, the colors of the land and sky change—never the same twice. Unimaginable hues, shadows, and striking contrasts—a visual feast of reds, blues, greens, and yellows, blending and coming apart, gentle clouds smudging the landscape and creating hypnotic moments. Even if you don’t draw, sketch, shoot, or paint… you might be inspired to take a colored pencil and scribble, open a little set of paints and make splotches… maybe you will even write in color. Welcome—immerse yourself in the dazzling hues of Domaine Majou.

Please meet the ladies, the muses of Majou. Led by the coq who balances a wine glass on its head, they have much to say in few words – a bit sassy they are. They have gone on adventures with me over the past few years, yet are now happily pronouncing and protesting in the world of Domaine Majou.

So, say Bonjour—for they are now “Frenchified,” and if you don’t, as all the French humans would be, they will be appalled… Mon Dieu!
