Two days post our debut on the Zero XE’s at round 2 of the X-Grip 2-Man race series.

Legs still aching as we write this… The challenge: As many laps as possible between two riders in three hours. Bill & Will took to the freshly cut forest track, with bark-busters and forearms working overtime, the team, in their first enduro race event, managed a 28minute average on the 14km loop, with 100kms covered and less than a minute apart between riders per lap – the lads were happy to be placed solidly mid pack in the clubman’s class.

Shout out to our pit crew and pals @xgripnz to @the_fastlane_studio for the fresh graphics. Nick and John for the on the ground support and to @alistairguthrie for trekking miles on foot for the shots!

Lots of learnings, heaps of fun and plenty of room for improvement. These two tired men will see you at the next event.

READ Professor David Norton latest article: The Role of Wetlands in Mitigating Extreme Weather Events

Aotearoa has lost up to 90% of its wetlands, and restoring them, alongside native forests, is one of the most effective and cost-efficient ways to reduce the devastating impacts of increasingly severe storm events. Professor David Norton argues that incentivising farmers to establish wetlands throughout hill country catchments would dramatically slow water and sediment flow downstream, while delivering major benefits for biodiversity and carbon sequestration.
Wetlands are a key pillar of Recloaking Papatuanuku.

We all need a big old Rimu tree in our weeks…
.
As @strikephotography and I walked through the forest that is the Kahunui we bumped into this incredible creature.
.
We couldn’t help but stop and hang out for a while.
.
One thing I love about trees is they are the complete opposite to us.
.
Aside from the obvious that their lungs are on the outside and ours on the inside hence why they breath out oxygen and we breathe it in.
.
Their heads are in the ground, that’s where they eat from, drink from, the place where they communicate mostly through their roots and the mycelium network.
.
Our central nervous system in contrast is suspended above the ground, up in the air.
.
I reckon that’s why people and trees are so good for each other. We do what the other can’t.
.
They say opposites attract in a relationship and I think that’s what makes our relationship with trees so special.

The Tuesday Club in Auckland is a creative workspace and gallery, and in September they screened Think Like A Forest to a full house. What did we learn? That concern for our climate resilience and biodiversity - and an understanding of the role native forests play - are as alive in urban audiences as they are in the regions. Thanks for having us @thetuesdayclub_nz

Today was a really cool day for me at @everysundaymoco

I put the call out for some help cutting some moustaches for @movember.nz awareness raising and a that's what I got in my little crafting corner in the @cyclespot_auckland Cafe.

This is a time of year when I normally run at some pretty high revs to help get some Movember conversations going. This year it's also coinciding with some pretty big life stuff. If I do what I've always done that's a recipe for burnout.

While we all tell other people to ask for help when things are tough, if you're like me, following that advice can be tough.

After a good chat at @the_triumphant_man I'm following my own advice and remembering some fundamentals. AIR - FUEL - SPARK - COMPRESSION

The great thing about ESMC is it's a great environment that fills my tank and is full of people open to chatting and lending a hand. That's my Air Fuel Spark Compression framework in a nutshell.

Cheers to @kiwipearlsnz for photos 8 and 9, and @vtwinrider @shepherdonwatch and @alistairguthrie for cutting some shapes in the crafting corner. @shepherdonwatch even brought his own scissors!
