You aren’t always going to know what to do next.

You’re not always going to have enough information to make a choice around your next steps in life.

You’re not always going to have the energy, motivation or willpower that you need to do the next phase of your healing journey.

You’re not always going to be up for digging deeper, feeling more, exploring new things.

You’re not always going to have the resources to keep going on your path of healing and growth.

You’re not always going to have the strength to do the hard work required to change - to face the discomfort and to have to let go of what you’re used to in order to forge your way into new territory.

And guess what?

That’s ok.

We are all going to go through phases in life where we DO have the capacity, motivation and drive to move ourselves forward, and phases where we just need to rest, take stock and integrate.

We are all going to have times and places where pushing for more is actually counter to what we need, and where letting ourselves relax and settle is actually much better for us.

We are all going to have times in life where the BEST thing we can do for our healing is to REST and just let ourselves BE.

You can trust when you go through those phases of low energy and motivation that you’re ok. That you’re still ‘on track’. That you’re still making progress.

These times of stagnancy are normal and are a part of the path.

Can you make room for that?

“Learning to actually follow and listen to your intuition is a real challenge for most of us.

The truth is, many of us can admit that on some level we DO feel connected to our internal guidance system.

We do have a sense of what is and isn’t right for us. We do get those little nudges that tell us to ‘go here’ or to ‘avoid that.’

We have times of deep inspiration and insight around what we WANT to be doing vs. what we don’t want to be doing, what feels good, what feels bad and we notice that there are patterns in the things that tend to go well for us and the things that don’t.

We have a sense of our inner being talking to us - telling us to avoid certain people, telling us not to do certain things society tells us we ‘have’ to do, telling us to follow a passion or something that brings us a feeling of purpose.

We KNOW that we have an inner voice that IS speaking to us.

But the problem is, when we actually consider following the voice, a whole bunch of resistance surfaces.”

he self love path isn’t a path of trying to ‘fake it till you make it.

’It’s not about pretending you like the parts of yourself you don’t or rejecting the parts of you that criticize, judge and condemn you.

The path isn’t one where we try to force ourselves into loving ourselves or where we lie about how we actually feel.

Rather we start with identifying the parts of ourselves we don’t love, the parts that we reject, the parts we see as bad, wrong, shameful and broken - and we have COMPASSION that we learned to hate these parts.

We don’t try to force love, but we shift into seeing that we did not CHOOSE to hate ourselves and it’s not our fault that we struggle with self acceptance.

We validate that somewhere along the line we were conditioned to reject ourselves.

Then we have curiosity.

Where did I learn I have to hate this part of me?

What has taught me that this isn’t good enough?

What do I fear would happen if I WERE to love myself? This is how we start the process.

Compassion for ourselves that self hate is there not because of choice but because of conditioning, and then curiosity around how we can feel supported in finding more space for questioning those painful narratives.

It’s a gentle path, not one of force.

Gentle is the way way heal.

There’s just no way around it.

This world is addicted to quick fixes, extreme practices and protocols, ‘going deep and hard’ at all times - with the belief and mindset that this is the way to get where we want to go.

It tells us that the more we FORCE things - force ourselves to ‘feel it to heal it’, force ourselves to face our pain, force ourselves to change and do things differently the faster we will be better and the faster we can start living a life of freedom.

But the reality is, the more we try to force our innocent, tender beings into a state of being ok, the farther we move from that very state.

If we REALLY want to heal, we have to realize that healing happens in the context of safety.

Not being ‘called out.’

Not being shamed.

Not through extremes that leave you feeling buzzy and then like you’re crashing.

Healing comes through slow, steady, supported steps that unfold naturally at a pace your body and nervous system can keep up with.

It’s not a mental game. Our minds can absorb and run with concepts in a moment - but our BODIES need time to process.

Healing happens through gentleness. This is the reality.

When you go through painful things in your life - a bad breakup where someone really hurts you, a terrible job situation where your boss is totally unreasonable, a health crisis or any other period where it feels like the choices you made led you to suffer - do you tend to look back and think ‘what did I do wrong to get myself into this situation?’

When you’re struggling, suffering or otherwise down in your life, do you tend to start to blame yourself for not seeing the pain coming, for not seeing that someone was going to let you down, for not seeing that there were red flags or even just wondering what it was that you missed that led you to this place of pain?

Is your natural instinct to assume that you COULD have done something different to avoid that pain that you’re now in, and to blame yourself for not doing that?

If so, I want you to know you’re not alone.

This is how MOST of us tend to approach dealing with the pain that’s happening in our lives - we look for how we were the cause, what we did wrong and how we messed things up, in the hopes that this is going to help us avoid pain and suffering in the future.

But the truth is, this kind of self blame ISN’T where our actual power lies.

This kind of self blame actually keeps us stuck - it doesn’t help us avoid future pain, and it doesn’t help us deal with our current pain either.

Today I want to talk about where our TRUE power lies in terms of protecting ourselves from and dealing with painful situations in life, and how we can tap into that power so that we feel much more in control and capable.

So often, the most healing thing we can offer ourselves and the most supportive thing we can do for others, is to offer validation.

To create a space where we open up to our own emotions, thoughts and feelings, and simply give ourselves space to think and feel without blame, shame or guilt.

Where we make ROOM for ourselves to be where we are, and rather than trying to fix ourselves, we simply acknowledge where we are, we make it ok and we validate that we have a good reason for being where we are.

Where we can look at those around us who are struggling and rather than trying to fix them, change them or convince them of something different, we again just show up for the ‘them’ that is existing right now, and we give them grace to be there.

This validation, this ‘I see you and I hear you and I’m not going to abandon you in this’ is one of the most powerful tools of love we have on the planet.

It’s one of the most transformational steps we can take.

It’s a medicine in and of itself.

So how would it feel to shift out of trying to fix or change yourself and others - to seeing what it’s like to just VALIDATE yourself and others?

Sometimes it’s not our place to offer someone a correction in how they’re living their lives, doing their work, speaking, acting, behaving or otherwise going about their day.

Sometimes it’s not our place to offer feedback on how things can be done differently, better or with more efficiency.

Sometimes, no matter how ‘right’ we may be about what we’re seeing, the solutions we’re offering to someone who’s struggling or how clearly we’re seeing reality - it’s just not our place to offer feedback.

Learning that oftentimes the BEST thing we can do is simply be a loving, supportive presence in someone's life, so that when THEY are ready to shift, to ask for help, to ask for an alternative perspective, they know they can be safe with us.

Sometimes, we need to make sure that we are giving people space to live THEIR lives and THEIR experience, without feeling that we are responsible for their path or need to SAY something every time we SEE something.

Being a safe space is often the BEST approach - then waiting to be invited in to give feedback.

This is often the best approach.

Can you trust that if the person is ready to change, they will let you know? And until then it’s just your job to make yourself safe so you aren’t being harmed by their actions, then to wait until you’re invited in to share what you see?

You aren’t going to be the reason the world does or doesn’t change.

You alone aren’t going to be the shift that turns our society from one of competition and hate to one of love and compassion.

You are not what the future of our planet is hinging on.

All of your choices are not the most important choices in the world - having dire consequences if you do the ‘wrong’ thing.

Rather, you are a part of a COLLECTIVE.

You are a part of a network of beings who are all co-creating our future together.

Which means that YES you have power - your choices matter, your impact matters and the way you chose to live your life IS a vote for the world that you want to see.

And.

You are not solely responsible for the future.

You are not responsible for anyone or how they live their lives.

You are not going to be THE REASON - either way - that the world does or doesn’t change.

You are going to be a PART of the change - but not all of it.

So please, take the pressure off of yourself.

Know that doing your best IS enough, and that it is the accumulation of impact over time that is your vote - not each individual choice.

Do what you can, and know that what you can’t is ok - there are others who are also doing the work. You’re not alone in this and it’s not all on you.

“One of the most common pit-falls that we’re going to experience when we notice ourselves wondering ‘what if’ about the lives we could have lived and the choices we could have made, is the pitfall of allowing ourselves to look at the information we NOW have about what happened based on the choices we DID make, and based on what we NOW know we ‘could’ have done differently and to use that as a weapon against ourselves.

It can be so difficult to really put ourselves back in the shoes of the person we were when we were making the choices that we did, and it can be really challenging NOT to take what we NOW know and apply it to the ‘us’ that used to exist.

It can feel like NOW it’s so deeply obvious that we should have done something else, that we could have done something else or that an alternative choice would have been better - but for the most part, if we are truly honest with ourselves we’re going to notice that the only reason we know that is because we’ve lived more.

The only reason we know what we know now is because we did what we did.

The only reason we know what we know now is because time has passed and we’ve had longer to gather information.

The only reason we know what we know now is because we’ve had experiences that our past self hadn’t had yet.

The only reason we know what we know now is because we’ve lived more. Observed more. Experienced more. Discovered more.”
