@oumou.sang and Tony in Essaouira Festival (2015)
Oumou Sangare invited Tony in her latest and striking album Mogoya out in 2017
“I feel very close to the African youth. I am very concerned about how Africa is developing and the future is always in the hands of youth. That’s also the reason my album targets young people and modern sounds. We need to show to the world that we are Africa, but we look forward and we believe in our future.”
Excerpt from Oumou Sangare interview on Al Arabiya.

Damon and Tony in Lagos (2004)

I told him that I was looking forward to the day when we can work up something together from the beginning, and maybe even do it in Nigeria. (…) Nigeria’s not an easy place to work, but Damon is a rugged guy and he loves Lagos! He knows what is good there and what is bad. He and his guys go out in Lagos on their own, without anybody guiding them, and they manage. He gets on fine with the musicians there, and they get on fine with him too. He gave them a lot, things that they would never dream of in their life. (…) he told me that I should come to London so that we could keep writing new material together. That’s why we eventually did another record as The Good, the Bad and the Queen. That one is a better mixture. (…) Anything he touches turns to gold, man! Look at the Gorillaz project—they sold millions with that, and all of them are already millionaires now. (…) The way Damon came into my life, it was kind of like it had been written. (…) Meeting him was like meeting another Fela for me; it was really that important because not only did this guy make a big difference in my career, but we are also very good friends." – excerpts from 'Tony Allen: An Autobiography of the Master Drummer of Afrobeat'
