12 years abroad: My life by the numbers

3 countries.
3 schools.
1 dog adopted.
24 new countries visited.
3 passports.
6 new iPhones.
1 trillion photos taken.
1 first love
1 major heart break
8272619237 mistakes made.
And somehow i would make them all again.

Cheers to another year abroad, still trying to figure it out.

TAN in Yuyuan Garden is an easy add to any Shanghai itinerary

Michelin-starred Sichuan food, a central location, and prices that were surprisingly affordable

Make sure you make a reservation on weekends and holidays as it might get busy! However, they do take walk ins so go check them out!

📍TAN•Sichuan Cuisine, 1st-2nd Floor, No. 106 Songyunlou, Central Square of Jiuqu Bridge, Yu Garden, Huangpu District

📍坛·四川料理
黄浦区豫园商城九曲桥中心广场松运楼106号1-2层

You think you can handle this spice? 😉

I’m 34 and I’m not afraid to admit that…

1. My month income is currently $0. I quit my stable, well paying insured job to pursue ✨happiness✨and well… I’m happy

2. I often think about how different my life would look if I never moved to Thailand, would I be married, with kids, a house, and a strong career but I know this is the life that was meant for me

3. I thought that being 34 would feel a lot more… adult than it does - often I think how the hell did someone trust me with this - but they do and I’m crushing it

4. I am scared for my future - I like having a plan - and right now not having one is a growing chapter in my life and I’m excited yet terrified to see where I end up

5. I nap for hours a day. Sometimes I get frustrated that I’m not doing enough, but napping is what helps my body get enough sleep and that’s what my body needs

6. I feel guilty being so far away from my family - but I also know that they are happy for me

7. I never wanted to move to China - the preconceived notions of the Chinese people I had met in the US, my interactions with my Chinese step mom kept me away. Now it’s the one place that has felt the most like home

I thought that life should have plans. A correct path. But with each life decision my life is propelled onto a road I often didn’t even know existed.

I find myself discovering the small details of a world that felt so limiting but is really endless in possibility.

If you’re wondering how to make a life beyond expectations, come along for this wild ride 💙

SHANGHAI! There is a goldfish theater exhibit at the Bund Financial Center (BFC) and it was so so so fun!!

At first I was so skeptical because what do you mean I’m going to see an exhibit of goldfish, but it was such a nice experience and different from the typical tourist affair.

I was able to chat with the designer/curator and he mentioned that there were almost 1000 goldfish of several varieties in the different tanks.

There was also an education element to it as the names of each species was near each tank.

This wasn’t your typical Chinese aquarium experience. Each tank has continuous flowing water which eliminated any smells and throughout the exhibit there were several people continuously checking on each fish. I was even able to ask one a few questions in some broken English!

The exhibit should be on for about a year, so if you’re looking for an escape from the heat or the rain, this is a perfect option!

don’t tempt me with a good bbq skewers…

like several of its neighbors, China LOVES to put foods on a skewer - this Yunnan inspired skewer location is right on the Bund (my fav) and never disappoints!

Hiiiiiii! ✨

inspired by @jayciesdiary way of in an introduction - I created a little cliff notes version of myself

which, as you can imagine, was incredibly stressful to limit myself to just 8 slides that “sum me up”

so think of this as the who I am right now as I’m navigate this new chapter

I’m excited you’re here and can’t wait to lose and win at life together

What’s one thing I should know about you?
