837 pieces of trash removed! Great Lakes Great Responsibility’s Executive Director Meag Schwartz joined Alpena Community College’s Environmental Science class as a guest speaker to explore the issue of marine debris in the Great Lakes.

After learning about the impacts of marine debris and the importance of prevention and removal, students took their learning into action with a campus cleanup, removing 837 pieces of trash from their campus!

Inspired by their actions? Join the movement to remove 1,000,000 pieces of trash from the Great Lakes watershed. It’s easy:

1. Pick up trash
2. Count your trash

This is an event you won’t want to miss!

A while ago I had a candidate that would travel from Alpena to Gaylord with her parents to have an appointment with me. Her parents asked a lot of questions and the shy candidate would keep her questions and answers to a minimum. That girl decided to take a change with the Michigan Air National Guard and she is now a certified Power Production Specialist right in her home town of Alpena at the Alpena CRTC. A1C @akolar25 is one of the youngest Airmen on the installation, carrying the torch for the next generation and being the leader we all know she can be. Congratulations!

This was my third huge week in a row!

I started in Alpena, Michigan by visiting and giving a lecture @alpenacc all because an excellent professor there found my work and believed in it!

Back in NYC I got to perform @caveatnyc with @chandlerjdean and others on one of my favorite topics: @dcinbox and I got a special surprise treat in meeting @jordancarlosofficial

And I’m just getting home from a presentation in New Jersey with the @lwvmorrisarea

Tomorrow is teaching @hassatstevens and then I’m off to Oklahoma for my four stop Tour of the state! I’m gonna get to see four out of five congressional districts with presentations for @lwvoklahoma @lwvtulsa at @magiccitybooks @lwvstillwater @lwvokc

Here’s to doing the work that I love and seeing the country that I love while doing it!

Downtown Alpena was filled this weekend with over 50 incredible ice sculptures on display between Mich-e-ke-wis, Culligan Plaza, the Pocket Park, and all throughout downtown! 🧊✨

From stunning works of art to playful designs, every corner you turned brought another photo-worthy moment. Ice Fest continues to grow because of this amazing community.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the businesses and individuals who supported this year’s event your generosity and enthusiasm make it all possible.

We’re also so grateful to the City of Alpena, the Thunder Bay Arts Council, and the many volunteers who help bring this vision to life year after year.
