I’ve been reflecting on the cyclical nature of time lately (pun not originally intended, but I won’t pass on an opportunity).

@sscxwc26bham has held a special place in my heart since Durango in 2022. I was in a transition, recently having wrapped up IOP #2 and amidst A&P in hopes of applying to PA school, and it was the first time I’d raced as an enby. @rocket__witch and I road tripped out, and I crammed for a midterm in our free time before the most chaotic race I’ve done until Bellingham.

As @chloespritz chauffeured @ca_spr_ and I up towards the border, with @nine_lives_cycling missing Summer and @birbsprunter due to illness and some sort of silly long race, respectively, I was again saddled with homework, trying to get ahead on things with a conference on the horizon. I was nervous - the biggest enby and women’s fields ever (!!) awaited us, and I’ve not gotten much time in on the CX bike this year. Plus, I’m mindful of the long history @teamsandmcx has whenever I pin up for a CX race!

After running into old, meeting up with concurrent, and making some new friends at the welcome party (and riding a bit of moonlit Galbraith singletrack), we rolled up to feats of strength. It was an alley cat this year, and right after the start I decided to follow some locals with knowledge (@quinkennedy and @ntnlplzrz); as I started working to catch them, I settled in. A bike race is a bike race, and a delightful day ensued. I feel vindicated (albeit having been mostly a passenger) that so many of us got podium places that evening.

Fast forward to the course Sunday morning and I realized I’d forgotten my front wheel in the garage. I was rattled, but it was far from a worst-case scenario - I just had to race on a 45mm rear and 33mm front tire combo. In retrospect it’s a nice encapsulation of my season - being (a bit) less neurotic, experiencing minor mishaps as a result, and (usually) retaining a calm that’s often eluded me in the past. The hour or so I got to spend on what might just might have been my favorite CX course ever, replete with a water slide, the most barriers I’ve ever encountered, some loamy fresh-cut singletrack, a live band… and more!

GGP CX FTW.

A few images from the summer series finale put in by @obf415cc and @swellbicycles … how lucky are we to have this. Thanks to all who contribute, ride, organize and cheer.

I brought my little camera with just a 28mm lens this time. Fun to explore the light and dust with a different set up not intended for action sports.

Great to see you all of you legends.
