I know that so many people’s impression of @burningman is that is a wild party in the desert. And while it is that, to say it’s so much more, doesn’t even begin to scrape the surface.

Burning man is a place where you can see creativity pushed to its largest scale, where play is the default mode, where silliness and general tomfoolery is expected, where the environment pushes everyone to their limits year after year and yet, they are entirely unwilling to give up on it.

I have seen a lot of incredible sunrises in far flung places on this earth, woken up in freezing temps on punishing hikes for once in a lifetime glimpses of the sun cresting over the horizon. And still. There is very little that can match the feeling of watching night shift to day and howling with strangers and friends as you catch that first view of the sun. The pure magic of dancing all night and forgetting that time ever existed.

The magic is in the gift a stranger gives you. The “Welcome home!” or “ fuck your burn” yelled with a smile and a hug. The magic is in the joy of playing with your friends like you’re kids again. Trampolines and see-saws and bubbles.

And the fire! Oh man the fire. The fire that is celebratory and wild. Fireworks that rival Disney (and I say that as a kid that grew up in Orlando!) Then the solemn contrast of fire as cleanser. Fire to purify and commemorate. The feeling of standing in the collective grief. Fire as human’s most primal source of connection.

So yeah, Burning Man is a party in the desert but if you show up thinking that is all it is, you’re in for a wild ride. 🤙

That look when you know the adventure is already starting 😄

New landscapes, good food, unbeatable coffee stops, and a front row seat to all of it.
This is what slow travel feels like.
