If your name holds the power to get you rejected for a job (which it does globally) that needs to change. DEAR [NAME] hopes to start a conversation about the inequalities, biases and prejudices within hiring people of color and ethnic minorities. DEAR [NAME], directed by Amara Abbas @amaraabbas , is a 4 min. short built from real rejections sent to ethnic minority candidates, and takes the familiar script and turns it into a powerful spoken-word performance, and what remains in the aftermath: self-doubt, frustration, resilience and the growing suspicion that nobody was looking in the first place. 
“In the film when our main character looks through the glass, all he sees is his own reflection. So in a way I think he sees himself as the problem. Constant rejection does that, it has this way of turning inward, you start questioning if it’s you, if you’re not enough, if you should just work harder.” Amara via C41 Magazine
 The film less interested in explaining the automation of this process, and more keen on humanizing the ordeal. 

“It struck a chord with me immediately. I think any person who has faced life’s disadvantages could resonate with it”[…]”I wasn’t really interested in anything except the character’s emotional and psychological experience. Amara Abbas celebrates the enduring beauty of the real in her latest work for Woolmark, created in partnership with Wieden+Kennedy Sydney. ‘Return to Real’ is the new global platform for Woolmark. In an era defined by the artificial, there is power in returning to what is true, tactile, and born of nature. Video of the Week: DEAR [NAME] directed by Amara Abbas DEAR [NAME], the four-minute short film, takes the familiar language of corporate rejection and turns it into a spoken-word performance about what remains after the inbox has moved on: self-doubt, frustration, resilience and the growing suspicion that nobody was looking in the first place.
