Believe in your artists and they will give you a city worth believing in. That belief starts with investing in places where they can take risks, build community, and share their vision with others. Congratulations to all of our artist-in-residence on an inspiring AiR26 exhibition! For six years, the @daphneartfdn Daphne Art Foundation’s Artist-in-Residence program has created space for artists to create, connect, exchange ideas, and grow alongside one another. Each year brings new voices, new perspectives, and work that reflects the depth of creativity already present in our community and along our border region. Thank you to Jesse Shaw for his mentorship, and to everyone who came out to celebrate and support our artists. The AiR26 exhibition is on view at Casa Daphne through October 30. We hope you’ll stop by, experience the work, and join us in celebrating Laredo’s creative community.

I can’t believe my first artist residency is officially over 🥹🤍 I don’t know if you can tell in this photo, but I am absolutely holding back the waterworks 😭 I’m so grateful that this experience gave me the opportunity not only to grow within my own practice, but to meet, learn from, and work alongside so many incredibly talented artists here in Laredo💛 One of my favorite parts of this residency was getting to watch everyone’s work develop over the last few months. From sharing the studio and exchanging ideas to finally seeing all of our work come together for the exhibition, it was so inspiring and kept motivating me to continue picking up that brush every time I hesitated to approach the canvas. I’m so proud of what everyone created and even happier that I got to experience my first residency with this group✨ Please go show these amazing artists some love and continue supporting their work! : @ambush.bug @m4ndameangeles @luis.coss @_clarimartinez @jcardenarte @chilecanela I’m also incredibly thankful to my mentor, Jesse Shaw, @georgewashingtonjr.laredo @americanprintmaker, for his guidance throughout this process, for challenging me, and for encouraging me to keep developing my work and practice. A huge thank you as well to Nic @niclewisfilms and Kass @slightlykass for everything they did behind the scenes to help keep this residency and exhibition moving. So much work goes into making something like this happen, and I’m incredibly grateful for all of the time, organization, and support they gave us along the way. 🤍 And thank you to @daphneartfdn for bringing all of us together and giving us the space and opportunity to create, experiment, learn from one another, and become more connected with Laredo’s art community and beyond 😊 What a way to finish my first residency. I’m going to miss working alongside everyone, but I’m so excited to see where we all go from here. WE DID IT 🥹❤️ #artist #laredo #tx

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the opening night of our AiR exhibition at Casa Daphne 🤍✨ Seeing the space absolutely PACKED with people spending time with the work, talking with the artists, and supporting Laredo’s creative community meant more to me than I can put into words. After months of painting, learning, questioning, experimenting, and growing, finally unveiling my series, Where It Collects, surrounded by my community was a dream come true ❤️ I’m incredibly thankful to my mentor, Jesse Shaw @georgewashingtonjr.laredo @americanprintmaker , for his guidance throughout this process, and to the Daphne Art Foundation @daphneartfdn for giving me the opportunity to be part of this residency, challenge myself, and grow closer to Laredo’s art community ✨ I’m especially grateful to Alyssa Cigarroa @alyssacigarroalaredo , whose work and involvement in Laredo’s arts community inspired me to keep finding ways to connect with local artists, pursue my own practice within this community, and support the creative work happening here. That sense of connection has become such an important part of how I see my future as an artist. And to all of the artists I had the privilege of working alongside throughout this residency, congratulations! WE DID IT 🥳❤️🥹 @ambush.bug @m4ndameangeles @luis.coss @_clarimartinez @jcardenarte @chilecanela I’m also incredibly grateful for my friends, family, and everyone who has continued supporting me throughout this residency and my career as an artist. Your encouragement has carried me through more than you know 🤍 The exhibition isn’t over yet! The artwork will remain on display at Casa Daphne through October 30th, so if you missed the opening, you still have time to see the exhibition and Where It Collects in person ☺️ Thank you, Laredo, for continuing to show up for the arts and for allowing me to keep telling stories about home through my work 🤍🎨 This is only the beginning… Until next time… ;) #artist #laredo #tx #artresidency --- Shop originals & prints at konanmtz.art IG: @konan.mtz YouTube: @konanmtz DM for commissions 😊📥

Carla Santillana - AiR26 Resident “Hi all, it’s Carla! I’ve been using painting and deconstructing denim to think through the stories, memories, and emotions passed down through the women in my family. I’ve been revisiting old photographs and memories of my mother and grandmother, using them as references for my paintings. Between ripping the seams of jeans, boiling denim in red dye, and painting, I find myself reflecting on their lived experiences, allowing those memories and emotions to inform the work as it takes shape. I began this residency treating my process as linear, but just like stories, I’m discovering that it’s okay to revisit, reshape, and strengthen ideas as they evolve.” Carla’s residency reminds us that the creative process is rarely linear. Follow along as she continues to explore family history, memory, and material through work that grows and transforms with each new discovery.
