“I see mirrors as representative of the unconscious, as something that is very still when you look at it. And then as soon as you start interacting with it, there’s a lot of movement. Also in the literal sense of playing with points of breaking and the shapes of wounds, you see yourself reflecting in the shards too.” -Amelia Foster

On August 18, 2026, we visited artist Amelia Foster’s studio in Brooklyn. Upon entering, we were transported into Foster’s world of mythological discovery and artistic fluidity.

Through our conversation with Amelia, her dedication to her practice was quickly exposed. After her 9-5, she comes to the studio to work, often going back and forth between five or six different mediums at once — ceramics, drawings, floral sculptures. Each stage of her work requires immense patience, forcing her to embrace this waiting period of interpretation.

At this moment, Foster is working under a specific set of rules — ceramic, metal, and mirrors — to create a body of a particular language and push her ideas further before expanding upon them. She is currently focusing on “filling in the gaps of breaking points” and ideas of forced adaptation, as well as the growths that come out of that, such as exoskeletons and protective layers.

Thank you @ameliaefoster for bringing us into your space and your mind, allowing us to uncover a deeper layer of your being through your work.

Fluxa Collective presents artist Amelia Foster, a multidisciplinary artist exploring the plasticity of memory and its subsequent influence on collective narratives and societal structures.

We had the honor of visiting Amelia’s studio where she masterfully manipulates hard materials such as ceramic, metal, stone, as well as soft materials like plant matter, graphite, and pastels. Foster creates a union between these forms, allowing their fluidity to intersect. Organic states coexist with engineered ones, creating a tension that examines how bodies and systems are shaped through rupture, accumulation, and forced adaptation.

When experiencing her work, Foster encourages the viewer to confront feelings of discomfort and question their own perception. Foster is questioning our memory – memories we can’t quite access or don’t have the visual memory for but the bodily memory for. To do so, she uses mythology as an outlet to make sense of these bodily memories to tell a visual story.
