~Just out here still livin’ the dream~

First post back in awhile and I think it only makes sense to showcase one of the more important weekends my life will ever have… my bachelor party.

Boy howdy, my goodness. I didn’t take many photos as this was both the tail-end of my ebb of not shooting film, as well as the revitalization to once more bring out the ol’ lightboxes to capture that which I find beautiful. And I don’t think there are many things more beautiful than all my brothers and my friends mingling together for one common goal, to fuck my shit up. And fucked up my shit became in the best way possible.

Debauchery came out in force. From trout, to battle beers, to smash bro., to beerio-kart. From spliffs to mind-morsels and all the “dry heat” inbetween my heart was overflowing.

Vincent, a man who had not gone camping prior to being put on a plane and shipped out to the vast open spaces of Colorado, dominated the games. Years of me never taking it easy on him, beating him whenever I could came to full fruition as the youngest surpassed his elders.

Meanwhile Pontius delivered the ride of his life, scraping his way out to the Leadville area until Nick finally wiggled his way underneath to find the rusted bits and yank them out, making the ride home much quieter.

And no major journey in my life would be complete without the two men who have been the measuring stick by which I judge all friendships. Regrettably my contact has been sparse, my response time longer than it ever should, and so to have them make the journey out here, to see how I live, meet my people, meant more to me than I could have fathomed.

I had the brothers from other mothers, the brothers from my mother, and the greatest group of friends to cheers to a new chapter, one I’ve been over the moon excited for ever since she and I took Pontius home that first trek across most of the country.

11/10, no notes.

NYBHA members had a great time yesterday learning life-saving first aid techniques from @stopthebleedofficial at @nyulangoneli.
Experienced EMS paramedics walked us through the proper steps to stop life-threatening bleeding with hands-on demos — skills every hunter and angler should have in the field.

Hunters and Anglers, Learn how to Stop the Bleed - Long Island

The #1 preventable killer after accidents in the field is uncontrolled bleeding, as hunters and anglers we are often far from help. The Stop the Bleed course teaches three simple skills (direct pressure, wound packing, tourniquets) that any hunter or angler can use to save a partner or themselves.

Nationwide, hunting-related gunshot wounds are extremely rare but not zero: International Hunter Education Association’s records show annual U.S. totals in the hundreds with fatalities typically under 100, nationwide. In New York, 2024 saw 11 hunter-related shooting incidents with only one fatality, and DEC reports that in recent years falls from tree stands have outnumbered firearm incidents, learning bleeding control skills is something essential for hunters, anglers and outdoors folks in general.

The New York chapter is bringing you a free, hands-on workshop taught by Stop the Bleed instructors to train you how to apply this specialized first aid in the field. This event will be hosted at NYU Grossman School of Medicine Research and Academic Center in Mineola, NY.

Space is limited for this course, so please register ASAP to secure your spot! Link in bio

Its been a busy summer for the fisheries team! We will be sharing content from all of our projects in the next few weeks, but to start us off: Some clips from June aboard the F/V Lady K. Over the course of 18 days at-sea, we tested an alternate frequency "pinger" device to deter harbor porpoise interactions in the monkfish fishery.

Big thanks to Vinny, Brendan and Brian from the @ladyk_mtk for having us aboard and putting up with a bunch of scientists for the month. Looking forward to starting our new project with the Lady K crew, testing LED lights in lobster pots to see if they effect catch. Stay tuned!

Great time yesterday at the NDA Long Island Branch Introduction to Deer Hunting Event. There were raffles, a wild game free lunch and archery range. Folks rotated stations such as hunting bag dump, safety and introduction to tree stand, climber and saddle hunting. Plus teaching folks how to blood track, use trail cameras, bright eyes, OnX and so much more.

First few days at sea for the Crustacean Pot Light project aboard the F/V Exit Strategy have been great! The goal is to assess the utility and effectiveness of light attracting Jonah crab and American lobster in pots, improving catch per unit effort (CPUE )within these fisheries.
🦀✨🦞

Thank you to @newyorkseagrant and those aboard the vessel conducting important research for our fishermen! Shout out to Al Schaffer & son as well as our CCE team Alex, Anna, and Mike.💪
