Hind Rajab was a 5-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza in January 2024. She was trapped in a car after her family was killed and called the Red Crescent for help. The paramedics sent to rescue her were also killed.

Her body was found 12 days later. In August 2026, Israel acknowledged that its soldiers had fired at the vehicle and opened a criminal investigation. Hind was killed by 350 bullets fired by Israeli soldiers.

Local authorities and analysts say the targeting of law-enforcement personnel is contributing to the weakening of civil order at a time when humanitarian conditions are already collapsing. Police and local security forces have played a central role in securing aid deliveries, managing crowds, and maintaining basic order during the war. As these structures come under continued attack, many residents fear Gaza could be pushed further into chaos, insecurity, and the breakdown of already fragile public life.
And for displaced families here, the reality remains unchanged — nowhere feels truly safe, even during evacuation itself.

While there may be political discussions and reported progress at the negotiating level, the humanitarian reality remains extremely difficult. Many families are still living in overcrowded shelters or makeshift tents, access to food and medical supplies remains inconsistent, and large parts of the territory continue to suffer from severe shortages of basic services including electricity, clean water, and healthcare.
