Stone Island Is Inviting You to Shop the Archive. Look, archive exhibitions are nothing new. I love them. They’re a chance to see pieces you wouldn’t normally get anywhere near, but Stone Island’s latest project lets you take them home as well. Taking over The Corner Shop at Selfridges London, THE COLLECTOR SERIES marks the brand’s first formal collaboration with the independent collectors who have spent years preserving and documenting its history. What’s lovely to see is how many familiar names are involved, including people I’ve known for a long time and consider friends. Seeing their dedication to the brand, its philosophy and its history recognised on this scale feels special. A lot of brands could take note of how to support the communities around them, and right now I think Stone Island are doing it particularly well. Arco Maher, Better Gift Shop, ‘bout, 194 Local, Holsales, Metallic Curtain, Pezze and SimJae have each curated selections from their own archives, with garments available to buy and their individual histories presented alongside them. If you’ve ever gone looking for a particular Stone Island piece, you’ll know how far down the rabbit hole you can end up. The fabrics, the treatments, the season it came from. There’s a level of knowledge and dedication behind these collections that has rarely been recognised previously. These people have helped keep the brand’s history accessible long after the pieces disappeared from the shop floor. The archival selections sit alongside Autumn/Winter ’026–’027 and Selfridges exclusives in a space designed by Willo Perron. Collectors and garments rotate weekly, so what you find will depend on when you visit. Open now until 6 November at Selfridges London.
