Sports in Kansas Volleyball Player to Watch: Amyah Werth, Hillsboro, Sr. OH

Amyah Werth has been one of Class 2A’s top defensive specialists throughout her high school career, but she’ll take on a new challenge this fall as Hillsboro’s six-rotation outside hitter. The 5-foot-5 senior was a varsity starter on Hillsboro’s state championship team as a freshman and has since earned three straight All-State honors, back-to-back State All-Tournament Team selections, and three consecutive First Team Central Kansas League honors. Last season, Werth helped the Trojans finish 35-11 and place third at the state tournament while recording 698 digs, 47 aces, averaging seven digs per set with a 2.3 serve receive rating. She enters her senior season with 1,821 career digs and will be counted on in an expanded offensive role.

“I am very excited for this upcoming season because of how different of a team we will be,” Werth said. “Losing seven seniors will definitely be a challenge, but I also believe that my teammates this year will be able to step into their new roles!”

Werth has also been a standout on the basketball court, earning back-to-back First Team Central Kansas League honors and All-State recognition. She currently holds volleyball offers from MidAmerica Nazarene, Tabor College, and Marian University. Athletics also run deep in her family, as her sister, Zaylee Werth, was a two-time Class 2A Player of the Year and now stars at MidAmerica Nazarene after earning Heart of America Freshman of the Year honors, while her mother, Tesha Werth, is a Tabor College Hall of Famer in both volleyball and basketball. #sportsinaknsas

It’s hard to say goodbye to something that has been such a big part of my life, but I am forever grateful for everything basketball has given me. Thank you to every teammate and coach for making these past 4 years more than anything I could’ve asked for. I will cherish every memory and inside joke forever. TYJ!!

SIK Basketball Player to Watch: Junior point guard Amyah Werth has already established herself as a key playmaker for Hillsboro High, averaging 13.4 points, 3.3 assists, and 2 steals per game last season while earning SIK All-Class honors in 2A and First Team CKL honors. Known for her quickness and court vision, Werth leads a squad loaded with returning talent, including Ella Potucek and Kingzley Ratzlaff. “I am really excited to play with the same girls this year and see how much more we can improve! I look forward to the toughness of our schedule, and I hope we can make it even further in our season than last year,” she said. Werth comes from a basketball background as her sister, Zaylee Werth, is currently playing for Mid-American Nazarene and was the Heart of American freshman of the year last year. #sportsinkansas
