ANNOUNCING: Amy Cuneo, ‘Spread’, Top Floor Gallery | Opening Thursday, 15 January

Amy Cuneo’s debut exhibition with Michael Reid, ‘Spread’, arrives as a gentle portrait of domestic life in motion. Working on Dharawal Country in regional New South Wales, Cuneo paints from within the flow of everyday routines: her studio sits beside the kitchen, and images are formed amid meals, conversations and the care of her family. This closeness to lived time gives the work its distinctive rhythm.

Across the exhibition, tables, flowers, chairs and windows appear not as fixed motifs but as unstable arrangements, forever tilting toward change. A vase bends; a bouquet turns away from the light; a pair of legs slips into view beneath a tablecloth.

Interiors open onto gardens and suburban streets, and back again, collapsing the distinction between inside and out. Cuneo’s palette — saturated blues and greens lifted by mauves, pinks and flashes of citrus — spreads energy across the surface, refusing the hierarchy of a single focal point.

Cuneo has shown widely in NSW and Tasmania and has been a finalist in several art prizes including FLOW (2019/2023) and the Fisher’s Ghost (2023). Her work is included in various private collections throughout Australia, New Zealand and Sweden and has been collected by Tiers & Co Collecting Group
