Studio visits are such a gift.
They ask you to pause,
to tidy the studio,
to bring order to the edges of your process,
to return to your why… something that can quietly drift in the rhythm of daily making.
They’re also fun;
conversation, connection, seeing the work through someone else’s eyes.
Yesterday, a collector pulled out a series of small black and white sketches I had set aside, almost dismissed.
To me, they were process work for my practice. Necessary, not valuable.
But through her eyes, there was beauty. Energy. Presence.
It stopped me.
These pieces were created in 2023 during A Personal Landscape workshop with Amy Metier at Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, Ireland. A time of deep looking; both inward and outward, shaped by Irish landscape, poetry, and daily exploration.
And yet… I had overlooked them.
A reminder:
sometimes the work we question most
is the work that still holds something true.
