“Living in New York can be overwhelming, and you can get so wrapped up in being stressed out,” says Ana, as we sit down to chat with her about the fifth edition of @other.almanac For her, a way to deal with all the chaos was to notice and observe — the small and the sweet, the tender and the overlooked. And that’s what inspired The Other Almanac, a publication inspired by the old Farmer’s Almanac, a longstanding American tradition🧑‍🌾 Living in New York, you can be so isolated from what’s happening in the rest of the world. But those who pay attention stay connected🗽 Whether it’s a little plant growing between the cracks of the sidewalk, endangered whales washing up on Rockaway Beach, pigeons getting up to something different this season, or frogs calling a tad differently🌱🐸🐋 The Other Almanac beautifully encapsulates the strange and the overlooked. The beauty right in front of us that so often goes unseen. Edited by @anachron_ , with incredible contributions from journalists, farmers, astrologers, musicians, chefs, and artists, this is one publication that will keep you hooked throughout 2027🌻🌻 The Other Almanac, published by @orbooks, is out now. Come grab a copy at Dépanneur. 📖 #farmersalmanac #prospectpark #greenwoodcemetery

A Trio in Four Courses constructed a fictional Italian restaurant around a table for two diners and one waiter. The table—built by Allan Wexler @allanwexlerstudio and Åke Strömer @stromermutroniks — operates as both furniture and apparatus: a stage for sound, service, and exchange. Dining was repositioned as performance, and performance is embedded within the rituals of the meal. At the table, two dining percussionists—Jessica Tsang and Amy Garapic @j.tsang @amygdrums —performed four five-minute compositions by Matt Evans. @matt_evans_online circulated between roles, delivering each course while acting as server and third percussionist. Plates, food, utensils and service become compositional material. Each course generated its own absurdist, minimalist score, emerging directly from the act of eating. A four-course Italian meal was prepared by Jen Monroe @badtaste.biz – served to both performers and an audience of invited diners. Cocktails and wine by Arley Marks / MAMO @arleymarks @mamo.nyc accompanied the meal. The event unfolded as a tightly choreographed sequence of food, sound, and attention—collapsing distinctions between a restaurant and a stage.  The conceptual wellspring for A Trio in Four Courses is “A New Futurist Cookbook,” a project conceived by Allan Wexler @allanwexlerstudio and Michael Yarinsky @tangible.space as a direct response to the 1932 Futurist Cookbook, a manifesto of culinary innovation by F. T. Marinetti.  Publishing in Spring of 2027, the book seeks to harness the provocative energy, the emphasis on innovation, and the multi-sensory focus that characterized historical Futurism, but works to redirect these potent methods towards contemporary aims: broader awareness, inclusivity, and a thoughtful re-evaluation of our relationship with food. “Whale Papa” a piece about shifting climates, Interspecies mourning, and cetaceans I wrote for my favorite publication, @other.almanac . When I feel low, I remember there are whales. “Throughout the afternoon, they rose one after another out of the water, loudly pluming clouds of seawater from their blowholes. That is often how you can spot them, my dad told me; a thick misty cloud on top of the water signals that there is a massive being just below. This cloud has a certain weightlessness. It hovers in the air, almost frozen—a salty plume of smoke, its own unique shade of dark blue-gray. “

Very pleased to be part of “Dig a hole…A nest” @acehotelbrooklyn curated by @linyee_is_outside @fieldmeridians opening Dec.4th. Alongside some of my favorite thinkers, makers, growers, I am sharing some birdhouses that I made @highdeserttestsites . The longer you are in the desert, the more life reveals itself, until suddenly the dry pink landscape seems to be in constant movement. The misconception that the desert is devoid of life has led to brazen development with little care for the ecosystem that exists there. These bird houses are designed for the birds of the desert, whose habitats are threatened by being overlooked. Spoons: These spoons are blunt on one side to scrape of spikes and on the other, rounded to remove the tender flesh of the prickly pear fruit and the seeds between them. “For artists who also farm, garden, and tend to soils, winter is an invitation to be still, slow down, conserve energy, and embrace decay as transformation. Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, a text that Field Meridians has been in dialogue with this past year, also reminds us that rest is not withdrawal, but preparation—an act of resilience in the face of instability. Written in 1993, Butler’s vision feels startlingly prescient: communities facing ecological collapse, violence, and profound uncertainty. Yet within the novel, seeds of resilience take root—seed saving, foraging, bartering, collective education, preparing for emergency, and cultivating joy, trust, rest, and love as necessary practices for survival. Dig a hole...A nest. draws from both the land’s cycles and Butler’s prophetic lessons. What new rituals of slowness, letting go, composting both grief and possibility, might sustain us? By holding the season’s lessons alongside Butler’s call for resilience, the works in this exhibition imagine how art and making can be both a mirror and a tool—offering ways to prepare, to reflect, and to rest together, even in uncertain times.”
