I’ve never been much of a story teller. It’s a skill I’d like to be better at, I just haven’t worked at it enough. I think that’s one of the reasons I like the camera so much. Another old story written in sandstone. We would call it an anthropomorphic petroglyph, but that term meant nothing to the person that put it here. So I sit in the dark and listen to the wind and the crickets and am content not knowing.

✨NAVAJO ELDERS NEED YOUR SUPPORT✨

My gratitude for the elders of the Navajo Nation is boundless. They have married me, nurtured me, shared their stories and wisdom with me, welcomed me into their homes and hogans and brought so much joy and laughter to my life.

I was talking with my sister Tara Benally last week and she told me about a man named Herbert Stash who has been working tirelessly to provide firewood to elders on the Navajo Nation.

Herbert is a volunteer and has dedicated himself to the difficult work of cutting, hauling, splitting and delivering local firewood from Bears Ears to elders throughout the Navajo Nation.

Herbert needs financial support to distribute more wood before colder temperatures arrive. Tara is working with Herbert to involve local youth in these efforts and funds are need to provide resources and meals to volunteers.

With Tara and Herbert’s blessings I’ve created a gofundme to provide Herbert with the resources he needs to continue his invaluable work.

Please help us support Herbert's generous work on behalf of his community. Any amount helps keep more Navajo elders comfortable and warm over the winter.

What makes a place sacred? How is it that you can feel connected to it even when it isn’t part of your own past? Edge of the World – Just wrapped a fantastic time at the 2021 @nightscaperconference in Kanab, Utah. Was SO great to finally meet previously-virtual friends in person; and to make many new ones too. My first “real” event after the pandemic; it truly felt like Le Grand Ball! Thanks to @roycebairphoto for hosting it, I can’t imagine how much work went into making all the arrangements for such a successful conference. Thanks, Royce!
This image was made with an incredibly fast 45mm Irix lens from @spencerscamera set to its maximum aperture, f/1.4. I stacked thirteen sequential images in Starry Landscape Stacker for noise reduction. Not a composite or blend. What amazing detail! With the exception of some minor haze along the horizon, you truly felt like you could step into another world – just like being at the Nightscaper Conference.
