By incorporating found objects and working at the intersection of figuration, installation, and sculpture, Martinez calls attention to the dissonance between agricultural abundance and the exploitation of those who make it possible. His art challenges viewers to consider the systems behind the food they consume, and the people whose labor sustains them — many of whom remain undocumented and unprotected.
The show will be supported by Food and Beyond, Beyond Food, a group exhibition that connects four female artists from different cultural backgrounds through the idea of food and nourishment. Curated by Narsiso Martinez, the show features works by Andrea Bersaglieri, Ashley Jose-Isip, Jessy Slim, and Karen Tepaz. Our first artist highlight of the 2026-2027 season is Andrea Bersaglieri in “Haptic Knowing.”

Bersaglieri, known for her analytical, observation drawings, paintings and prints, explores organic specimen found in urban and surban communities. She focuses on the soil, investigating the particulars of nature in her immediate surroundings to reveal universal answers to unformed questions about her observations of the world around her.

Wonderful opening tonight at The Ridley-Tree Museum at Westmont College.
