MOTHER PALM- TREE OF LIFE the Medjool Dates of Coachella Valley. Kerrie Smith's multidisciplinary practice stands at the intersection of art ecology, and cultural history. Drawing from her English roots and her life in California, she creates work that connects places and times-revealing hidden continuities. Her projects remind us that landscapes are not empty spaces but carriers of memory, labor, and survival. #californiaartist #installationart #stewardsoftheland. I’ve been invited to show MANDALA 4: Mother Palm Phoenix Dactylifera, Surrounding the Corolla Tree of Life. Opening Reception Nov 18th 4-7pm. DIVERSE DIMENSIONS: A Plurality of Perspectives celebrates innovative artists who navigate both 2D and 3D Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts, College of the Desert, Palm Desert. My first oil painting in MANY years! Portrait of a turkey vulture (a study),
9" x12". Wow - the color is so amazing in oils; no problem keeping the luminosity. No thinners, but I did use a little bit of my previous favorite drying medium, Liquin. Walnut oil for cleanup.

I am still working in acrylic as I love that too, so we'll see where this goes! I have a series of small works planned....

AND - LAST CHANCE TO VIEW "SANCTUARY" IN PERSON - tomorrow, Saturday 10/10, from 11-12:30 pm.

Location: Shoebox Projects at the Brewery Artist Lofts. 660 South Avenue 21 #3, Los Angeles.

(fyi - this is not my photo of a vulture; found this amongst some of my ancient printouts of animals, perfect for a study).

Stewardship in action on Bear Mountain!

The Tejon Ranch Conservancy team joined The Nature Conservancy as guests to lend a hand with data collection on a blue oak habitat restoration project. Together, staff got hands-on experience supporting the care and recovery of this important California ecosystem.

Collaboration like this helps strengthen conservation efforts and build a shared commitment to protecting Bear Mountain’s blue oak woodlands for generations to come. 🌳💚
