POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Harana was an old courtship tradition in the Philippines where young men would serenade ladies outside their windows.

In honor of Filipino American History Month, here is a tribute to the harana: “Ikaw” by Mike Velarde Jr., a song featured in The Romance of Magno Rubio. 🇵🇭

Throwback to this past summer working with @theateralaska in Juneau, a place rich with Filipino-American history.

Please don’t judge my attempt at Tagalog too harshly, fluent speakers! Salamat! 🙏🏽🙈

“He is cooking. Do not ask Prudencio when he is cooking.” 👨🏽‍🍳🥘🥣

It is a rare opportunity to get to portray a #Filipino onstage (my first time!!) with other Filipinos in a distinctly Filipino-American story. In a way it almost felt natural to step into these characters and feel their optimism, frustration, heartache, and all their emotions adjusting to a new country holding so much promise. It made me think of my parents and what they went through trying to make a life for us here in the States.

To the #Juneau community, thank you for coming to the show and sharing your origin stories. It was an honor to pay tribute not only to the Filipinos who came before us but to those who helped build Juneau.

Salamat to @npclaridad, @flordelino, and @theateralaska for giving us the opportunity to tell this story, and to this cast & crew for making this experience full of laughs, food, and heart. Mga kaibigan ko 💕

Let there be more Filipino shows please 🇵🇭

And for the love of Consuelo, let Prudencio cook!!! 🔥

May 2026

Really weird month. That’s basically all there is to say on the matter. Love my friends as per usual ❤️

For real tho a flipping crazy month with tons of things checked off my “didn’t think this would ever happen” list.
