TDS AROUND THE WORLD – Join Us on the Journey to 1,000!

Over the past years, we’ve traveled the world, collecting 500 TDS measurements across 15 countries, 33 cities, and 150 coffee shops. The results? Insights that challenge how we understand espresso. We shared our findings at the first-ever Coffee Science and Education Summit at ZHAW in Zurich and in STANDART Magazine #38 with Rethink the Shot – A Global Journey Through Modern Espresso Evolution.

But we’re just getting started. The next milestone: 1,000 measurements. And to get there, we need your help! We’re especially eager to expand into coffee origin countries—the very places where this beautiful journey begins.

💡 Want to be part of it? Submit your measurements and help us push espresso research further. Let’s rethink the shot together!

TDS Around the World goes 500!

When Sun and I started this project more than two years ago, we wouldn’t have expected to reach 500 measurements one day!

These measurements allowed us a data driven approach to coffee beverage quality around the world. We got amazing insights, that only a well structured testing protocol allows and we got valuable insights into consumer preferences globally. It culminated in a keynote speech at the Coffee Science and Education Summit in Zurich, and then continued in a workshop in Taipei and will have a follow up lecture and workshop at CoffeeEast in my hometown Bucharest in Romania 🇷🇴.

Yet, we are not done yet. On the contrary, the journey only really starts now. Next week Frederic will join the team and start his data collection in Mexico 🇲🇽 and Fabiola will help us to cover Costa Rica 🇨🇷.

I have spent a great few days at HOST Milano this year, and I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us on this incredible journey. I am grateful for my long-term collaboration with @eversyshq , who made it possible to introduce our newest product SPECTER.

At Coffee by Storm, our dream was to bring a high-quality under-counter coffee machine to life, and thanks to @swiss.smyze , that vision has become a reality.

The opportunity to connect with remarkable individuals like Boram Um, exchanging ideas with Dale Harris, and being inspired by the incredible André Eiermann, among many others, has been a true highlight.

Here’s to a future filled with passion, collaboration, and limitless possibilities in the world of coffee!

Last post I presented extraction times from more than 2000 extractions using a single roast batch coffee and calculated what percetage of shots falls out of a certain given extraction time tolerance.
I add additinal analysis to that data to see if the deviations that happened are statistically random or there is perhaps something odd going on.
