In Andrea Kerstens' text, the figure of the village artist drifts through time and thought.

Briefly pausing, somewhere in the restless city of her mind.

We’ve added a few new treats to the bookshelves here at @seesawspace ~ welcoming in a couple of publications by @prototypepubs and some limited edition works by @kerstens.andrea and @elena.ote, sitting nicely alongside the latest @pinkmcr_ publication made in collaboration with @bruistudio to accompany our current exhibition.
•
We started this evolving bookshop as a way of connecting with different creatives, whilst also creating a space for us to share the publication we had begun to make. The simple open call that we put out a few months ago has welcomed in so many amazing contributions.
•
& although the shelves are filling up with incredible works by local, national and international creatives ~ we are still interested in finding more things to furnish these shelves. Drop us a message if you’ve got something you think we should know about!

What a whirlwind few weeks that was . . . we can now finally sit back and process the different works and ideas that make up our latest exhibition ‘Acting on Behalf of Thinking’.
•
Taking the notion of performativity as a departing point, this group exhibition asks and explores what might appear if we were to expand the space for thinking through works that are theatrical, but not theatre; performative but not performance. Exercising an investigation into performativity as a concept; an investigation that will allow the various understandings and framings to wander. In this case, wandering into the realm of contemporary sculpture; opening up a material conversation with the transformative and creative potential of the performative.
•
This assemblage of works presents multiple performative conditions and connections; offering encounters with current practices of performing, staging and acting within sculpture and the exhibition space - providing a way for us to explore relations and positions within a staged constellation. Articulating and unfolding a material line of thought that serves to examine the edges of both sculpture and performativity; crossing them over to practice a critical fascination of how we think when we make.
•
This week we will be sharing photos and thoughts as we work to document the space, the constellation of works and the conversations that we will have with the different visitors in the space.
•
‘Acting on Behalf of Thinking’ is on from 12th July - 13th August. Opening times are Monday - Friday 2-5pm and tickets are required for visits. These are free and available via Eventbrite (the link for this is in our bio).
•
