When I was 14, I had the privilege of playing Princess Jasmine in an all blind and visually impaired production of Aladdin KIDS. That summer came after the loss of two friends six months apart from each other.. before the production, I had completely shut down for months. But as we started rehearsal, I slowly came alive again. One of my friends was into theatre and doing the play helped me feel closer to her. I had stomach surgery shortly after rehearsal started.. and I still did homework lol. I was watching all three Aladdin movies and the tv series. I had something to work towards. I had my friends, my favorite teacher, and my family around me every step of the way. We had once a week rehearsals for five weeks.. so five rehearsals total. Everyone did a LOT of home study, and we had a blast doing it. 🩵 since we didn’t normally get opportunities to do something like this, the cast took so much joy in the play, we stayed in character out of rehearsals and generally acted like goofballs. At the cast after party.. I remember I couldn’t sit with my friends because the younger cast members wanted “Jasmine,” to sit with them! By the end, we performed for an audience of 500. I still don’t remember much of that school year but I treasure that summer and probably will forever. Thank you @marleenabarber for giving it to not just me but all of us. (And then doing it again with Mermaid)

That’s why when AG released playline Jasmine, I knew she had to come home with me. She was going to be my prize for these two eye surgeries… somehow. Thank you to @andreabethkehere @burkiefay @dollahlah for the birthday/surgery gift card that made this possible. Jasmine already was special to me but now she reminds me of my friends too! 💙🩷🩵

And thank you to @amcangrl for the sully costume Itza is rocking! I love it SO much! A hot pink American Girl doll box with the words a “Jasmine” written in white fancy lettering.
