So thrilled with “Highly Commended” in @rbsagallery Watercolour Prize for my ceramic equine sculpture
“Poised” & that the judges valued how water-based media & pigments can be explored in sculptural form. Over a decade since @rbsagallery held a watercolour prize & honoured to be representing sculpture. Exhibition runs until September 13th. A thoroughly well deserved first prize to Daniel Lopez for his stunning work & granulation, Second Prize Lawrence Green ARBSA, Third Prize Gabrielle Roberts-Dalton RBSA, Highly Commended
Andrea Coles (A personal favourite), David Gleeson, Gwenda Jones, Kelly Zou, Jennifer Ng (catalogue cover image) Steve Evans PPRBSA (top tips for hanging non framed water colour paper!) The first RBSA Watercolour Prize for over a decade celebrates work created using water-based media.

🎨🫟𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮 – 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱’𝘀 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 🎨🌹👆

Last week we ditched the paintbrushes and got properly hands-on….finger painting like we were kids again (but with a still life brief and fewer snack breaks 😂).

Once again Andrea encouraged us to step out of our comfort zones and into a more instinctive, playful way of painting. Using beautiful roses picked straight from her garden as inspiration, we explored how our fingers, palms, and even nails could become tools to build texture, shape, and movement on the page.

There was something really exciting about the unpredictability of it all, letting go of control and layering paint in a way that felt totally intuitive. My piece still holds on to a bit of my usual precision, but I’m really loving how freeing this abstract approach can be.

Can’t wait to see what today's class brings...

✨ 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆: 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱!✨

Apologies for the radio silence....the past month has been a rollercoaster 🎢 Between being knocked out by illness for 3 weeks, celebrating a big birthday 🎉, work, kids, life, and still wrapping my head around the fact that my artwork is up in Birmingham city centre (!!), it's been a lot.

In other exciting news... we’ve welcomed our new art teacher, @andreacolesart , who’s picked up Una’s legacy beautifully. The past few weeks have been eye-opening, experimental, and just what I needed to bring creativity back into my weekly rhythm 🎨

We’ve been exploring new techniques like masking fluid with watercolour and working with complimentary colours in acrylic (today I went for bold purples & yellows, not my usual palette, but I’m loving the contrast). I’ve stepped away from my typical clean lines and precision and started playing more with freeform mark-making. It feels so freeing to just explore without rules and it's always so satisfying when you pull away the washi tape and reveal the finished artwork.

AND I had the chance to join @mrseaves101 at @designfestbrum 2025 (a volunteer last year, but this time as a participant) at the elevating words to art workshop where we got hands-on with large-scale typography.

Special mention to Jill @binningtonblooms who made me the most beautiful b'day bouquet with flowers picked fresh from her fields in Yorkshire.

Swipe through to see all the moments from this wild, colourful month 💜💛
