INTERTIDAL Landscape.

Our two disciplines bring together reflective pools of handmade mirror and beautifully light, textured ceramic shards reminiscent of sun bleached shell.
Dappled light and shadow come into play in this thoughtfully redesigned space.
All the elements bring warmth and calm.
Special thanks to savvy clients who seek out handmade design to complete their interiors. So much gratitude.

Design Vancouver Festival

The kindling needed to spark change in a city starved for meaning and connection.

I feel I am just coming down from the social and creative high many of us experienced at the end of September. Starting on September 17th with a stellar PechaKucha evening that ramped up an avalanche of open studios, talks, dinner series and (of course) parties!

But wait…in Vancouver? Yes. Yes indeed. It feels as if we all came out of our caves, rubbed our eyes (“wow, look how nice it’s out here”), and went forth to explore the land.

Students, professionals, design lovers, friends, family, and curious minds, all converging at the same time. Starved for beauty, eager to chat, excited to connect, ready to create.

The number of “Hi! How are you?” I got from total strangers seemed to match the record-breaking number of steps I took. A hello from a stranger? Not very Vancouver at all, and that’s a good thing! It’s about time we get rid of our shitty behaviour that does nothing but to feed the silos that keep us apart.

In my opinion, the one common thread amongst all the conversations I had was this: we are ready to pivot, everyone knows the status quo is not working, and we need to dig deeper (together) to find our way forward.

The festival was the medium

Serious praise to @designvanfest, @beckichan and her team for their tremendous force to put all of this together, and special thanks to @camcaptures_ (fest ambassador) for making me her plus one :).

Cheers!

Layered materials are to be appreciated within this piece—stoneware, porcelain, glass, metal, stone. The magic of the work is in itself very intuitive, shaped by both longing and restraint, with a balance between what is shared and what remains open.

Each cluster holds a solitude that speaks. Formed through fire (and patience), through that which is invisible and suddenly, made visible in clay. “I am a noticer” says @andreacoppceramics… and in that noticing—in the space between the hand and what emerges—a wonderful story begins. There is a resounding presence within each, to uncover with the eye, and soul.

“Whispered through the clay, I heard Rachmaninoff.” —Andrea Copp. A cadence of earth and of longing. Each piece exists within the cluster, yet remains gently individual. One cannot help but pause and reflect on their characteristics, deepening with time and openness. The title of each, emerging during the making process, or once made.

And just like that…goodbye to Show Studios 🤍
What began as a shared creative space became something really special — a place to make, gather, create, host, and dream. In a relatively short time, this little studio held so many beautiful moments, and we are so grateful for all of them.
To everyone who supported us, attended a workshop, stopped by, followed along or cheered us on — thank you.🫶 It meant so much.
While this chapter has come to a close, it’s also the start of new ones. We’re both moving forward into our own next seasons, and I hope you’ll continue to follow along and support us individually on our paths. @thistlebotanical @theunravelstudio @andreacoppceramics @andreacopp.workshops
So much love and gratitude for what this space was, our new found friendship and all that’s still to come ✨

Andrea Copp Ceramics Studio

Andrea and I met only a short while ago at a presentation of her work at Provide Home in Vancouver's Armoury District and had continued to cross paths and share conversations several times since.

Her openness and honesty has always been evident in how she chooses to speak about her work. The passion and vulnerability crafting sculptures that are beautiful and explorative.

We spent time together in her studio discussing all sorts of events in our past that have led us to where we are now and our hopes for the creative future.

At COFU Chinatown, every element of the space is placed with intention.

When things fall into where they are meant to be, the atmosphere quietly shapes the experience.

From the light to the objects around you, each detail helps guide the moment.

An afternoon to slow down and create.

During our matcha bowl workshop, everyone had the space to pause, focus, and enter their own creative rhythm — shaping something personal with their hands.

Thank you @andreacoppceramics for thoughtfully guiding the experience and helping bring each creation to life.

If you’re interested in collaborating with @cofu_chinatown or @hushcoffeestore, we’d love to connect. Reach out to us directly via DM or info@cofu.ca
