This might sound crazy if you’ve never been…

Spend months planning, thousands of dollars, voluntarily live in one of the harshest environments imaginable for a week… and then spend the next year talking about going back.

But 4 Burns in, I know why I keep choosing it.

Very few things put me in an environment that asks this much of me while simultaneously reminding me how much more there is to experience.

More curiosity. More play. More expression. More honest conversations. More strangers becoming friends. More moments I never could’ve planned for.

And yes, an offensive amount of dust.

I don’t come home wanting to live at Burning Man. I come home wanting to bring a little more of who I am there into the life I’m building here 🫶

@joeyloumusic is now a’lou ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

this year was my first year at burning man, and wow there’s so much to share about that… but one thing at a time.

after the burn during decomp at mammoth lakes, i had this conversation with @alexisquiterio and @andreherd that cracked something open for me... about how much the burn impacted my music journey and gave so much clarity on where i actually wanna go next

before this i’d been feeling so torn between being the filmmaker / creative director / photographer online and going all in on music… two accounts, two identities, and honestly it just got to a point where I didn’t want to create at all

turns out my intuition was telling me that music’s the only thing i actually care to go deep on. i just let fear, limiting beliefs, and the idea of leaving opportunity on the table keep me from committing fully… so I decided on a name change that felt more aligned. a place where there was no more room for an identity crisis.

grateful for the love, the clarity, and this beautiful experience. to memorialize the moment, we filmed a mix on top of our RV at the tail end of our trip before saying our goodbyes

Story time… ✨11.5 years ago I met Radha after an intro from Eli to launch @dybrkr in DC. It was a fringe idea then, so was sobriety and wellness. But we sold out the first event at my favorite club, then off to the races. A year later Radha went all in and built a team, and after a seminal Burning Man trip, I left DC for a new life in NYC.

I spent the next 10 years giving nights & weekends to this beautiful community project. The most fulfilling work of my life. I know because it (almost) never felt like work. More like service, an art project, or some prosocial revolution masking as a business.

We made a million people smile. 1,000+ events. Countless sunrises in the most iconic spaces. The memory slideshow brings easy tears… scenes from the long story arcs of each event: community organizing, post-game brunches, the exhaustion, the hilarity of dramas and resolutions — somehow it always worked out for us. Radha & Eli — I’ll miss finding each other on the dance floor just to say ā€œit’s workingā€ with a wink, knowing we had magic up our sleeves all along. šŸŖ„

The relationships are the greatest gift… the most epic cast of characters across the world: producers, DJs, yogis, venue owners, and performing artists of every type. I’m so grateful for this tapestry of connections — thank you to all who said yes to our gregarious tactics of persuasion, you have a friend in me for life.

No goodbyes, but this summer I transitioned from COO to advisor. It’s an exercise in ego death to walk away after a decade of my life, but I’m grateful for the rebirth, and confident the movement and team have never been stronger. To HQ and to the producers worldwide, I love you and can’t wait to see what you do next. :)

And to Radha & Eli — Thank you for the best years of my life. For the invitation, the collaboration, the family, the partnership, the alchemy. It’s all been once in a lifetime. I’m in awe of the world we built and so grateful to you for carrying the torch forward as loving parents. Words won’t do this justice... Till next time, shine on you crazy diamonds — Better and better, forever and ever.

Thank you, @dybrkr family. See you on a dance floor soon. šŸ’š
